And, what appears but cannot function is the reversed conventional truth. The latter is divided into the differentiated ultimate truth, which merely prevents birth etc., but has not been liberated from the proliferation of non-birth, and the non-differentiated ultimate truth, which is liberated from all extremes of proliferation. Moreover, those who believe that there is no arising or ceasing also believe that it is encompassed by five great reasons of logic, namely: using the vajra gaze for the cause, using existence and non-existence, arising and ceasing for the result, using the four extremes of arising and ceasing for both cause and result, and using the negation-of-existence as the logical statement for the essence, being separate from one and many. These four are the logic that eliminates the extreme of imputation of existence, while the logic of great dependent origination, which is established as a non-negation-of-existence logical statement, is the cutting off of the proliferation of both existence and non-existence, making a total of five. The first is: all phenomena do not arise from themselves, not from others, not from both, and not from no cause, because whatever is born is empty of reality, like a dream. This is what is believed. The Madhyamakavatara says: Since there is no arising from self, other, both, or no cause, all things are devoid of inherent existence. The second is: these various appearances of phenomena are devoid of existence, non-existence, and arising, therefore, if the essence is existent, then there should be no arising, and if it is admitted, then it should not be existent, because it is unborn. The Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness says: Because the existent exists, it is unborn; because the non-existent does not exist, it is not born. The third is: it is empty of one producing many, many producing one, one producing one, and many producing many. The Two Truths says: Many do not make one thing, one does not make many things, many do not make many things, and one does not make one either. The fourth is: whatever appears in reality cannot be established as either real or unreal, because it is separate from one and many, like the moon in water. The Ornament of the Middle Way says: These things spoken of by self and other, in reality are separate from one and many, because they are devoid of the nature of multiplicity, therefore they have no nature, like reflections. The fifth is: all phenomena that are merely appearances arise dependently, therefore, they are pervasive with emptiness, so they are like illusions. It is also said in the Root Text:

Whatever is dependent arising, you consider that to be emptiness. So it is said. Here, we believe that those reasonings only acknowledge the negation of reality, substance, and mere imputation. That is to say, how these appearances, from the moment of appearance, are empty of their own distinct self-natures, therefore, in the ultimate sense, only the emptiness of analytical negation is acknowledged. Secondly, the meaning of the root verses of the Middle Way of the Second Buddha, the glorious Nāgārjuna, is explained without reversing it. It becomes the pinnacle of what all the characteristic vehicles prove. That is to say, the former is not considered the ultimate Middle Way, because it is considered non-existent in the ultimate sense, so it falls into the extreme of annihilation, and because it acknowledges conventional existence, it does not go beyond the path of permanence. Moreover, the cessation of elaboration by the discriminating wisdom of the mind is also not free from elaboration, because Mañjuśrī said: The emptiness of the analysis of the aggregates is like a water tree without essence. And so on, by refuting the former's view, one establishes one's own view as follows: That is to say, the two truths are established in dependence on the mind's delusion and non-delusion. The samadhi of attaining the ground, the subsequent appearance of insight that abides as one in its nature, and the sphere of activity of the wisdom that has manifested the unlearning, the pacification of the elaboration of mind and mental factors, is the ultimate truth. Candrakīrti said: Because the nature of phenomena is unborn, so the mind is also free from birth, therefore, relying on those, it is like knowing that by that. Because the mind arises in the form of an object, so by that object, that which is known, similarly, relying on terms, it is knowledge. So it is said. Similarly, in the minds of ordinary beings bound by the habitual tendencies of ignorance, various kinds of delusions appear even though they do not exist in reality, that is the conventional. That is like a dream when asleep, it exists in the minds of conventional delusions. Like when waking up from that, it does not exist in the minds of ultimate non-delusion. Moreover, its basis of division is also emptiness without characteristics, therefore, although it is not established in meaning, nevertheless, it is established by imputing it in the minds of worldly people. It is not like the tenets that cling to reality, as it says in the Entering the Middle Way: How do you abandon other-dependence?
