If you can perform the transference with the power to reverse, like doing things properly, it would be excellent! If you do not burn the effigy, then after offering food, visualize the consciousness of the deceased as Vajrasattva, transfer it to the sky in front, and give guidance. If you burn the effigy, then after transferring the consciousness to the sky, burn the effigy. Then give guidance. If there is a corpse, then after transferring the consciousness to the heart of Amitabha at the crown of the head, give guidance. Although the two, guidance and purification, appear in various sequences, they do not contradict their respective traditions. After burning the effigy, it is excellent to properly make a Tsa-tsa, recite mantras, and invite it with mustard seeds and sand to a river that flows into the ocean! The meaning of the seven-day ceremonies: The basis for holding the first seven days and so on, in sequence, every seven days after death. It is related to the statement in the Purification Tantra that the son of a god, Immaculate Jewel, will be born in the lower realms seven days after death. Others say that the consciousness remains in the corpse for three days, so the beginning of the seven-day ceremonies is held from the fourth day. In the Compendium, it says: How long does it stay? It stays for seven days. And if it is not found, in the Earth Chapter, it says: After abandoning the body, it stays for another seven days. For those who are very slow, if they do not find the cause of birth, they will stay for seven times seven days. After that, they will find the cause of birth. What is said is generally speaking. In special cases, there is no certainty. Because it is said in the Sutras that they stay for years and kalpas. Continuously performing virtuous deeds benefits those who stay in the Bardo for a long time. And even if they are born in the lower realms, it purifies their obscurations because of the deeds done for them. The Tantra says: If you give alms, perform fire offerings, and give empowerments, the ghosts will not eat and will be born in the happy realms. In short, if guidance is given by a superior Vajra Acharya, liberation can be attained. Even a middling one can prevent rebirth in the lower realms. Even an inferior one becomes a source of benefit in various ways because the ritual is performed properly. Therefore, it is extremely important to serve with diligence and to bless with a qualified ritual. May it be auspicious! The profound yoga practice of transference through the door of Amitabha, the stages of visualization. Whether for oneself or others, it is fine. The body appears clear on the outside and has the nature of light on the inside. In the center, from the navel to the crown of the head, there is a central channel lotus.

Like a fine silk thread, straight as the trunk of a waterside tree, red and oily like a rhododendron flower, clear and bright like a sesame oil lamp, possessing the nature of light—endowed with these four qualities, visualize a white 'Ah' syllable, of medium thickness, like a reed or arrow shaft, at the heart center, which is the essence of the unified wind and mind. Utter the sound 'Ah' in a long tone, clearly visualizing the 'Ah' syllable at the heart trembling, almost about to leap upwards. Then, forcefully pronounce 'PHAṬ' (Tibetan: ཕྲཊ, Sanskrit Devanagari: फट, Sanskrit Romanization: phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: Snap!), visualizing the 'Ah' syllable shooting out like a meteor and dissolving into the heart of Amitabha, and remain in that state. Afterwards, bring it down again as usual. For the deceased, consider the heart of Amitabha, one's own mind, and the consciousness of the deceased as inseparable, and remain in that state for a short while. Again, as before, clearly visualize an 'Ah' syllable and repeat the transference etc. three times, or until conviction arises. Alternatively, recite 'Ah PHAṬ' (Tibetan: ཨ་ཕྲཊ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अःफट, Sanskrit Romanization: aḥ phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: Ah Snap!) three times. The first time, transfer the 'Ah' syllable from the heart to the throat, the second time to the crown of the head, and the third time to the heart of Amitabha. Choose whichever method is convenient. These are oral instructions, similar to other scriptures. Furthermore, in the chapter of the 'Heap of Jewels Sutra' requested by Upali, it is said: 'By reciting the Three Heaps Sutra three times during the day and three times during the night, one will definitely be liberated from the place of committing evil deeds, and one will also attain samadhi.' And so on, it is widely proclaimed in the sutra. Furthermore, in the detailed version of the 'Net of Meaning Tantra' ritual, page 180: 'Oṃ Maṇi Padme Hūṃ Phaṭ' (Tibetan: ཨོ་པདྨོ་རྞཱི་ཥ་བི་མ་ལེ་ཧཱུཾ་ཕྲཊ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओ मणि पद्मे हुं फट, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om Mani Padme Hum Phat). If one recites the essence of the secret mantra, the ten-syllable mantra, one hundred thousand times, one will become non-returning and will be transferred to the tenth bhumi.' And so on. If one blows into a conch shell and recites it seven times, and then blows it in a high place, all sentient beings who hear the sound of that conch shell, whether male, female, boy, girl, animal, bird, or belonging to the animal realm, will all incline towards the heavenly realms. Also, if one recites over sandalwood seven times and then burns it in a monastic garden, around a stupa, inside a monastery, among a crowd of people, or in a king's palace, all sentient beings who smell the fragrance there will perfect the Buddha's body.
