There is no place of arising, no place of dwelling in between, and no place of going in the end. It is believed that if the place of arising is not determined in the Great Perfection, the root of delusion cannot be cut off; if there is no place of dwelling in between, the face of wisdom cannot be recognized; even if it is realized that there is no place of going in the end, one cannot attain Buddhahood. Therefore, there is a place of arising in the beginning, a place of dwelling in between, and a place of going in the end. Moreover, in the beginning, when samsara and nirvana had not yet separated, it was called the intermediate state between samsara and nirvana. Without the Buddha, realization had not yet manifested; without sentient beings, the clinging to the reality of deluded appearances had not yet arisen; not relying on subtle particles and the five external elements; the sentient beings of the six realms were not obscured by obscurations. Therefore, it is called the essence body in which both samsara and nirvana have not yet been established, called unconditioned, called self-arisen original, the great bardo of not knowing, one state arises that is called neither samsara nor nirvana, its essence is emptiness, the cause is self-arisen, the example is like the sky, although various appearances appear, it is one. If asked when it arose, kalpas are countless, measures and numbers are nonexistent, it arose before the inconceivable and immeasurable. If asked how long it lasts, kalpas are countless, one inconceivable thing arose, that is the basis of both samsara and nirvana, it is the place of arising. Thus, etc., the way of liberation of Samantabhadra and the way of delusion of the six realms are explained. When the mind abides, the evil thoughts of the bodies of the six realms combine with the winds and emit conceptual thoughts, the mind wanders in the six realms of samsara. From the later transmission of Vairochana: Now, in order to make what has not yet been decided, the introduction to the meaning is: In the palace of the Jewel Mind (Sanskrit: Citta-ratna), the nature of the five pure essences combined is the indestructible bindu, the wisdom of the Dharma does not cease, like the eye of a fish in water, or like a clear magnifying glass, it abides clearly. Thus, appearance is separated from the extreme of annihilation because of the establishment of form, touch is separated from the extreme of permanence because of the non-establishment of substance, the meaning is liberated from the extremes of permanence and annihilation from the beginning, it is not a co-emergent that is created, the co-emergent that arises has not fallen into emptiness like the sky, nor has it become a stubborn thing like earth and stone, the essence, nature, and nature of great compassion abide clearly. From the intention of the wise Shri Singha: The chapter showing the metaphor and meaning of the Dharmakaya abiding in the heart, that is the first chapter. Vairochana, listen, abiding is abiding like that, meditation is also meditating like that.

One should not meditate like that. If one meditates in that way, three faults will occur: attachment to one's own body will arise; one will fall into the extreme of permanence; one will go astray into the meditation of false conceptions. The result of that is that the delusion of the body cannot be cut off. Because the mind is the key, the body is important. Suffering is transformed by the body. The thought that the body will be boiled and burned will arise. Enemies and demons will come. Bardo will come, thinking that these will happen to the body, thus fear and panic will arise. In that suffering, the thought of seeking refuge will arise, and one will enter the womb door of the six realms. Therefore, in practicing the Dharma of example and meaning, one must cut off attachment to the body. If one wants to know how to cut off attachment, how to meditate, then let go of both the body that thinks and the awareness of the meditating mind. In the state of the clear essence of the Dharmakaya, let awareness rest naturally in a state of non-grasping. The example is like a precious manjusri crystal. The meaning is that one's own body exists in the Dharmakaya, so the body is not material. Meditate on emptiness as transparent. Meditate on the Dharmakaya as a clear space. The Secret Lineage Tantra says: "The nature of the body is the clear space of secret instructions, in the state of non-thought and equality, wisdom is clear, without searching, naturally abiding in a mass of light." This is called transforming the state into the path. If the clear space of self-nature is not established, even if the view is as high as a naturally arising king, it is like building a castle on a sandy mountain. The Secret Lineage Tantra says: "The unobstructed body is great as a teacher, self-aware wisdom is great as a teacher, the five lifeless bodies are great as attendants, the unhidden mandala is great as a place, spontaneously accomplished from the beginning is great as a time, showing the difference of the five greatnesses." If one meditates on the material aggregate of the body as emptiness and transparency, one will not get sick from disease, one will not be harmed by evil spirits, one will not be carried away by water, one will not be buried by earth, one will not be burned by fire, one will not be scattered by wind. For example, like a rainbow in the empty sky. Now is the introduction of the four: body, speech, mind, and place. First, if the place of dwelling is not established, just looking at pure wisdom is like a blind bird searching for the end of the sky. Therefore, the introduction of the place is: the place is the realm of the Dharmadhatu, the nature of which is completely pure, the great luminosity of the supreme realm, not interrupted in any extent, not fallen into any direction, without interruption of extent, without bias of direction, like a cloudless sky, or a waveless ocean, or a wiped mirror.
