The precepts of asceticism are harsh because they are harmful to both this life and the next. The Buddha established precepts that abandon both extremes, showing the way to create benefit and happiness in the short and long term, therefore it is not harsh (13). If one transgresses the precepts, it is not that there is no way to recover from the fall and no way to be liberated from other paths, but there are ways to remedy through confession and re-taking vows, and other ways to attain liberation such as rejoicing in the roots of virtue, therefore it is not rude (14). For the disciples of the three types, leading them to the three vehicles of the Hearer Vehicle, the Bodhisattva Vehicle, and the Secret Mantra Vehicle that are appropriate to their respective capacities, therefore it is extremely tame or extremely able to tame (15). Because it is extremely gentle and pleasant, it makes the listeners concentrate their minds and listen attentively, therefore it is pleasing to the ear (16). From hearing the Buddha's words, the mind is placed in equanimity, and from that comes calm abiding, and then the bliss of pliancy arises in the body, so it makes the body satisfied by experiencing special bliss (17). By cultivating the wisdom that is skilled in the characteristics of all the dharmas taught by those words, both general and specific, it generates insight, and by that, it is separated from the darkness of ignorance and generates the joy of being particularly wise, therefore it makes the mind satisfied (18). Whatever mental happiness arises from the doubt of two minds, the Buddha's words cut off all doubts, and therefore it makes the heart satisfied by offering the mental happiness that is free from the place of doubt (19). By the power of perfectly explaining the general and specific characteristics of all dharmas, it removes ignorance and generates the courage of wisdom, therefore it generates joy (20). By properly explaining the reality of the two truths, it removes the evil views of permanence and annihilation, and therefore establishes special correct wisdom, therefore it generates happiness (21). Having heard the meaning of what was said, by thinking and meditating, one obtains the result, and therefore one will realize the reality directly, therefore I will never be tormented by the regret of thinking that listening to the Buddha's words was meaningless, therefore it is without regret (22). Because the words are pleasant and rely on hearing, the wisdom that arises from hearing is fully increased and abides, therefore it is to be fully known (23). If one thinks about the meaning of what one has heard through the four reasonings, then the imputations and subtractions are well decided, and therefore there is certainty about the meaning.

Because it is the cause and place for the arising of excellent wisdom born from hearing, thinking, and meditating, it is called discernment or knowing. Without concealing or hiding, like explaining some teachings but not others, or explaining the words but not the meaning, but rather clearly showing the teacher's example, it is therefore completely clear. Relying on the teachings, it places the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas in Nirvana, and the Bodhisattvas in the state of Buddhahood, thus accomplishing both self-benefit and the benefit of others. Seeing that the fruit of one's own desires is achieved, it generates joy, and therefore it is joyful. Even ordinary beings from the stage of not having entered the path up to the stage of faith, generate the desire to enter in order to obtain the fruit of self-benefit, so it is manifest joy or manifest desire. The actual state is manifest

Therefore, like the roar of a lion (33). Like the sound of a celestial elephant, which is loud and without doubt or fear, spreading widely, the Buddha's speech is similar, therefore like the sound of an elephant (34). Like the sound of a dragon, which is louder than other sounds and is a profound mystery, the Buddha's speech is also extremely important and difficult to fathom, therefore like the sound of a dragon (35). Like the words of the dragon king in the abode of dragons, which are pleasing and dignified, and all dragons can understand, the Tathagata's speech is also pleasing and dignified, and all beings can hear it, therefore like the voice of the lord of aquatic beings, the dragon king (36). Like among the voices of ordinary beings, there is none more beautiful and gentle than the voice of a Gandharva, a celestial musician, the Buddha's speech is also beautiful and gentle, therefore like the voice of a Gandharva (37). Like the sound of the Kalaviṅka bird dwelling on an ocean island, which continuously changes into other sounds, the Buddha's speech also continuously produces beautiful sounds that are different from the previous ones, or, like the sound of the Kalaviṅka bird is so beautiful that even after it is interrupted, it still evokes a desire to hear it again, the Buddha's speech also deeply touches the hearts of listeners, and even when it appears to be interrupted, it still evokes a desire to hear it again, therefore like the voice of the Kalaviṅka bird (38). Like the voice of the great Brahma, the father of the world, which is not intermittent but continuous, the Tathagata's speech also resounds loudly for a long time, therefore like the voice of Brahma. Like the sound of the turquoise-colored winged bird, the Shangshang bird, which is said to bring about the fulfillment of all purposes when heard by any being seeking meaning, and is therefore auspicious, the Buddha's speech is also like that, having been heard before, it later brings about the accomplishment of all worldly and transmundane virtues, and is therefore an auspicious omen, like the sound of the Shangshang bird (40). The meaning of this is stated in the Twenty Thousand Verses: Mentioning sound is for the purpose of understanding the meaning of that sound. Mentioning voice is because it is the sound that characterizes the understanding of meaning, and is for the purpose of understanding.
