In the Ornament Sutra, it is said: 'The nails of the Buddha are copper-colored, with a glossy and high hue. The nails are round and full, with fine lines. Veins are invisible, and there are no knots. The ankles are not visible, and the feet are even. Like a lion, an elephant king, and a great Garuda, he walks with a supreme gait, moving to the right, with a beautiful, upright, and graceful demeanor. Like being wiped clean, they fit together in order. The body is clean, soft, and pure. Complete with all marks and signs, the limbs of the body are broad and beautiful. The steps are steady, and the eyes are clear. Extremely young with tender skin, the body does not shrink and is full. The body is extremely firm, and the limbs are extremely relaxed. The gaze is clear and unobstructed. The waist is round, the timing is ripe and not old. Naturally drooping, the navel is deep and spirals to the right. Beautiful to look at from all directions, conduct is upright, and there are no moles or black spots on the body. The hands are as soft as cotton, with bright, deep, and long lines. The face is not too long, and the lips are red like Bimba fruit. The tongue is soft and thin, red and with the sound of a dragon. The voice is soft and gentle, and the teeth are round, sharp, white, and even. The lines are fine, the nose is high, and it is extremely clean. The eyes are wide, and the eyelashes are thick, like lotus petals. The eyebrows are long and soft, glossy, and the hair is even. The hands are long and broad, the ears are even, and the signs of decay are completely abandoned. The forehead is well-defined, the space is large, and the crown of the head is full. The hair is black like a bee, thick, soft, and not tangled, does not fall out, and emits fragrance, captivating the mind. Adorned with auspicious emblems and auspicious knots, these are the excellent signs of the Buddha.' Thus it is said. Among these, the high nails are not shrunken, the joints of the ankles are large and not visible, the length and thickness of the two feet are the same, and he can subdue beings walking on the ground such as humans, hence the gait of a lion, and he can subdue beings walking underground such as nagas.

Overpowering with majesty, like the gait of an elephant; overpowering beings that move in the sky and those who travel above, like the gait of a swan or garuda; leading the retinue, proceeding in the manner of a supreme leader. All marks and signs are prominent and clear, hence complete; the shape of the palm is broad and beautiful, hence extended; the navel is deep, and the lines swirl to the right; the entrance of the face has no fault of being too large, and the sound does not travel too far or too near; the eyebrows are connected, hence appearing long; the forehead is well-developed and not protruding, hence spacious; the intervals of sound are evenly divided; the hands and feet have auspicious swastikas; on the circumference of the wheel, there are uninterrupted auspicious patterns in seven layers; and the pattern of swirling swastikas is surrounded by square designs. The others are easy to understand. Secondly, what is the essence of these aforementioned marks and signs? There are different views on this. According to the Sravaka schools, it is the nature of minute particles, the substance of external objects, which is considered as the form aggregate. According to the Mahayana Yogacara school, the essence is that which is accompanied by samadhi and wisdom, and the function is said to generate appearances for the beings to be trained, therefore it is merely the consciousness of the beings to be trained that appears to others. However, here, as a term, the nomenclature of something like the form of the aggregates is necessary. Similarly, the Prasangika Madhyamikas who are in accordance with the practice of yoga also consider that in the valid conventional truth, how things appear depends on the distinction of intention. These are appearances of one's own mind, which ordinary beings cannot understand. Even so, the form that is seen is meaningful to them. As it is said. The Tathagata, in the realm of the Dharma-nature, the essence of equality, vast and great, all activities of dualistic elaboration have ceased, and having awakened as the vajra of space, free from all elaborations, therefore, these appearances of body, wisdom, and boundless activities, in the stage of learning, are the wisdom adorned with infinite accumulations of merit, and for the benefit of others, accomplished by the power of the ocean of aspirations that cannot be fathomed in depth and breadth. As it is said: Just as on the pure ground of beryl, the body of the king of gods
