Just as reflections appear, similarly, on the pure ground of sentient beings' minds, the image of the King of Sages will appear. As it is said, for those pure individuals who are suitable disciples, in both true and conventional appearances, without effort, it will naturally appear like the moon in water. Fourth, there is a need to refer to such qualities as "marks" and "signs." Because, whoever possesses these marks, they are like characteristics that represent a great being. For example, the quality of being free from attachment to all internal actions is made known to others. Externally, the nails appearing like the color of red copper symbolize and make known the internal qualities to others. Or, it enhances the beauty of the body for others, or serves as an indication, hence it is called "signs." Fifth, although Chakravartins and Bodhisattvas also have marks and signs, these are only general. The marks and signs of the Buddha are pure because they are free from the defilement of opposing factors, beautiful because they are pleasing, and unmatched by others because they are without obscuration and all parts are completely perfect. The reason for this is that the marks and signs of a Chakravartin can arise from just a single moment of pure thought towards the Buddha. Let alone the marks and signs of the Buddha, even a single pore cannot be produced by the merit that a Chakravartin accumulates to achieve marks and signs, even after practicing for hundreds of millions of eons. As it is also said: "In the Garland of Jewels, it is said: 'Although all Chakravartins possess these, the manifestations of these marks and signs, the purity, beauty, and clarity, do not equal even a fraction of the Buddhas.'" The second, the qualities of speech are sixty-four branches. There are four aspects to explaining this: the cause of accomplishment, the nature of accomplishment, the reason for such explanation, and the display of other inconceivable qualities. First, as mentioned earlier, the invisible crown of the head, the merit of accomplishment is immeasurable merit increased by hundreds of millions of billions, and with ten powers, the melodious voice with sixty branches is accomplished. Second, in the Secret Inconceivable Sutra, it says: "Peaceful wisdom."

In short, the speech of the Tathagata possesses sixty-four characteristics. What are the sixty-four characteristics? They are, for example, having soft speech, and so on. As the sixty-four characteristics are mentioned in the scriptures, a brief explanation is given below: For example, just as the softness of oil and the flow of pure water, entering the path where they naturally flow, cause the ungrown plants and forests to grow, and make the grown plants flourish. Similarly, the speech of the Tathagata also enters the continuum of all those to be tamed, adapting to their faculties, thereby causing the unproduced roots of virtue to be produced, and the produced roots of virtue to increase and expand. Therefore, the Buddha's speech is listed as one of the minor marks in the Ornament for Clear Realization. Because it is workable, the speech is soft or oily (1). Just as the gentle touch of divine garments and other tactile objects brings happiness when they touch the body, so too, the moment one hears the speech, the mind is satisfied with happiness, therefore it is gentle (2). Because it teaches the good meanings of the Four Noble Truths, Dependent Arising, the aspects of enlightenment, etc., making them understandable to the minds of various types of individuals, therefore it is pleasing (3). Because it does not use incomplete words or meaningless speech, but speaks with the language and script of gods and noble beings, it is therefore agreeable (4). Because it arises from the Saṁ (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思) of the lord of wisdom who sees all that is pure, the subsequent attainment of the non-conceptual wisdom that knows reality as it is, having abandoned the two obscurations along with their habitual tendencies, it is therefore pure (5). Because it is spoken after abandoning the root and secondary afflictions along with their habitual tendencies, it is therefore immaculate (6). Because it abandons words and scripts that are not commonly used in the world, and speaks with commonly used words and scripts, it is therefore bright or very clear (7). Because it destroys the wrong views of self-grasping and other non-Buddhist views, it is therefore melodious and pleasing. Because practicing as spoken, one will definitely be liberated from samsara, its meaning is weighty, therefore it is worthy of being heard (9). Because it cannot be overcome by the power of opponents such as non-Buddhists, and cannot be refuted, it is unshakeable (10). Because endless joy arises in the minds of those who hear the speech, it is melodious (11). Because it tames afflictions by showing the antidotes to the actions of the three poisons, it is therefore taming or pacified (12). Because the asceticism and
