I raised the colored Dharma robe banner, held a picture of the Buddha's image, recited praises, and entered the streets, saying to the beggars: I will not despise you in any way, I am only seeking to fulfill my own desires. I have taken refuge in the Buddha and have been ordained in his presence. After saying this, the beggars returned, went to the Buddha, saw the truth, and also attained supernatural powers. Then, he came out of the Victory Grove and entered a gathering of people, where the beggars again began to seize him, wanting to rob him. He rose into the sky like a king of swans, displaying various miracles, causing everyone to have faith. By teaching the Dharma, hundreds of thousands of beings saw the truth. Then, the mother of beings was ordained and became an Arhat. Like this, these eleven are all the result of making merit to the stupa of the Vipashyin Buddha. Furthermore, in Shravasti, a wealthy and prosperous householder had sons who all died young. So the mother vowed: If a son is born this time, I will offer him to the imperishable abbot. After some time, she became pregnant, and from the time of conception, her body emitted a fragrance, and at birth, she wore a small garland of heavenly jasmine flowers on her head, and was very beautiful and pleasing. At the age of seven, the imperishable abbot had him ordained, and he became an Arhat. When sewing clothes with a duster and needle, he could enter eight liberations between each stitch, and therefore he was considered the most sharp-witted. He was once a merchant, and under the teachings of the Vipashyin Buddha, he wanted to be ordained from a young age but was unsuccessful, and regretted it in his old age. He placed jasmine flowers on the stupa of hair and nails, offered food to the Buddha and the Sangha, and prayed: May I especially realize the noble Dharma from a young age. In Kapilavastu, a wealthy and affluent man had a beautiful and charming son. From the moment of his birth, many extraordinarily wondrous signs beautified the entire Kapilavastu. When this child grew up, he met the Buddha and became an Arhat. Also, in the past, during a festival held at the stupa of the hair and nails of the Buddha Vipashyin, he encountered the stupa, developed faith, and offered flowers. One of them said, "I have nothing, so I will do nothing." After saying this, he left, but later regretted it and collected various flowers, offering them to that stupa. Also, in the past, in Varanasi, he was a merchant who saw a sick Pratyekabuddha. He developed faith, prostrated at his feet, and offered clothes and alms. Also, during the time of the Buddha Kashyapa, a poor man, who had become like a tree fruit, saw grass growing around a stupa in a mountain valley. He developed faith, pulled out all the grass, swept the stupa and its surroundings, and made prayers, which led to his birth. His teachings were: Because he swept the stupa and its surroundings, wherever he was born, his body would be beautiful, pleasing, and delightful to behold. It was for this very reason that he manifested as an Arhat. Also, during a festival at the stupa of Kashyapa, a gambler hung two gold coins on the life-tree of the stupa and prayed. As a result, in all his lives, his body became beautiful and pleasing, and inexhaustible gold coins flowed from his hands, and so on, becoming extremely wealthy. When he became a householder's son named "Holding Gold in Hand," he met the Buddha, offered heaps of gold and silver to the Sangha, showed reverence, and saw the truth. After ordaining, he became an Arhat. Also, the queens of King Bimbisara (异形王) requested the king and built a stupa of the hair and nails of Shakyamuni Buddha in their own garden. They personally sprinkled water and the queens made offerings with many offerings. But later, King Ajatashatru (阿阇世王) issued a decree that no one should show respect to the stupa, so everyone was saddened.
