After picking it up, thinking it was a precious lapis lazuli jewel, he took it home. Because it was too cold, he couldn't hold it, so he thought he should hide it and carefully put it in a bottle. Seeing the hail melt, he thought it was empty and said nothing. Similarly, Manjushri, deeply meditated on emptiness, deeply contemplated emptiness, and saw that all dharmas were destroyed and unbearable. He also saw and realized that the non-empty liberation is also empty. For example, just like regarding hail as a jewel, thinking that the jewel is also emptiness, similarly, you also think that the non-empty dharma is emptiness, and after seeing that the dharma is emptiness, you also regard the non-empty dharma as being destroyed. The dharma of emptiness is different, and the non-empty dharmas are also different, like hail, the afflictive thoughts are emptiness. Like hail, the dharmas of the unwholesome side will quickly perish. Like a lapis lazuli jewel, the Buddha is eternal, and the boundary of liberation is also like a lapis lazuli jewel. Space is also the form body of all Buddhas, which cannot be seen by Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. The Buddha's liberation is also a form body, and the liberation of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is also a formless body. How can the nature of liberation be called emptiness, do not cling to the notion of non-discrimination. Manjushri, the stacked houses in the city are empty because there is no one. The bottle is empty because there is no water. The river is empty because there is no water flow. Is it called emptiness emptiness because there are no houses in the middle of the city? Are all the houses empty? Not all the houses are empty, but it is called emptiness because there is no one. Are all the bottles empty? Not all the bottles are empty, but it is called emptiness because there is no water. Are all the rivers empty? Not all the rivers are empty, but it is called emptiness because there is no water flow. Similarly, not all liberations are emptiness, but because they are free from all faults, they are called liberation is emptiness. The Bhagavan Buddha is not emptiness, because he is free from all faults, and there are no humans and gods with afflictive thoughts, so it is emptiness.

It should be known. Alas! The venerable Manjushri acts with the conduct of a bee, merely not understanding the meaning of emptiness and non-emptiness! The naked ascetics are also the same, meditating on everything as empty, O naked ascetic bee, say nothing! Thus it was said. Regarding this, the Buddha is like the sky. Thus it was said. Such as these. Emptiness is nothing at all, how could you, Sorong (referring to Sorong Lama, i.e., Khedrup Je, a disciple of Je Tsongkhapa), know? Ending with this statement. Some believe that everything that appears is self-empty by its very nature, but the noble Manjushri, knowing this clearly, initiated the debate in order to definitively establish the difference between self-emptiness and other-emptiness. Then, using the example of the finger garland melting hailstones into nothing, this shows that afflictions and non-virtuous dharmas are empty, which demonstrates that everything belonging to the conventional truth is empty in its own nature. And using the example of a beryl jewel that does not melt away, this shows that the ultimate liberation—the Buddha—is not empty, which demonstrates that the ultimate truth, the truth beyond the world—the Dharmakaya—is not empty in its own nature. And using the examples of an empty house, an empty pot, and an empty river, this shows emptiness of all faults, which demonstrates that ultimate liberation is other-empty. It is not that all liberation is empty, and the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are not empty, and the dharmas that are not empty are also other, etc., all these explanations of non-emptiness mean that ultimate reality itself is not empty of itself. In many other sutras and tantras, it is said that it is not shown like this, and there are very many statements saying not empty, and those are also the same. Although the noble Manjushri knows both self-emptiness and other-emptiness well, those who are not wise think that everything is only self-empty, and in order to show that those people are the same as the naked ascetics, whoever says that everything is self-empty, if they can distinguish well whether self-emptiness is established or not, compared to someone who can say this, (those people) are only shown to be like bees. The venerable Manjushri acts with the conduct of a bee, merely not understanding the meaning of emptiness and non-emptiness! The naked ascetics are also the same, meditating on everything as empty, the naked
