In the middle it is declared. It says, "Whoever in the world is mindless, will faint after taking poison. To remove the poison, the function of the mind here is to think. Abandoning ignorance, here is because of knowing the suchness of poison. The suchness of removing poison, the meaning of this is, that is the one with intention." And so on. It also says, "Wind destroys wind." It means that beans generate wind, so by continuously accumulating it, it is made to expel. This is a reverse medicine, because it is of the same kind as the disease. Therefore, it is declared and so on. For the principle of mantra, afflictions are not the only things to be abandoned. If someone thinks like that, then it should also be explained that the intention of those scriptures is: those things that seem like afflictions, such as enjoying the five desires, which are possessed by skillful means and wisdom, will not bind the yogi, but will quickly become the cause of liberation. Therefore, it is not something to be abandoned, but something to be relied upon. This is because, in the precious tantras, there are very many actions that yogis should do that transcend worldly affairs, but because the nature of those actions is very secret, they are not written here. Therefore, those afflictions that become the cause of bondage are also very much to be abandoned in the mantra vehicle. In the 'Ear of Instructions' it also says: "Emptiness itself destroys all afflictions. Without emptiness, relying on wisdom with an afflicted mind is still a samsaric being, and will also fall into bad destinies. Therefore, abandoning the afflicted mind is the pure mind, pure wisdom, pure prajna." And so on. And, the obstacle to the arising of wisdom in the realm of knowable dharmas is not the afflictive obscuration, but ignorance, that is, the obscuration of the knowable. By gradually abandoning these obstacles separately, one can gradually attain the ten bhumis of the Bodhisattva. Afflictions are desire and so on, which are the accumulation of afflictions. Why? Because liberation cannot be attained, afflictions will become an obstacle.
