Because of this. The ultimate other-emptiness has been well established. In accordance with the meaning of "neither existent nor non-existent" here, the Madhyamaka treatise *Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes* also states: "Neither existent nor non-existent." Furthermore, in the vast majority of the many stainless Madhyamaka treatises, it is said to be free from the extremes of existence and non-existence. The intention of all these is that all conventional dependent arisings are not truly existent. If one understands this way, one will not fall into the extreme of existence and will be liberated from the extreme of superimposition. The ultimate, the nature of reality that transcends dependent arising, is never non-existent. If one understands this way, one will not fall into the extreme of non-existence and will be liberated from the extreme of denigration. Other than that, those who are not skilled in the meaning but consider themselves to be, or those who are not skilled in the meaning but are known as being skilled, according to their views, the ultimate itself is neither ultimately existent nor ultimately non-existent, etc., considering that one phenomenon is neither existent nor non-existent as the definitive meaning of being free from extremes, these are not in accordance with the meaning of reality and contradict the intentions of the Buddhas and great Bodhisattvas. If someone thinks that the *Mahāyāna-sūtrālaṃkāra*, *Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes*, *Distinguishing Dharma and Dharmatā*, and the *Abhidharmasamuccaya* also teach other-emptiness, but these treatises are the tenets of the Mind-Only school, not the Madhyamaka school, therefore the emptiness taught in them is not true emptiness. Then, some may have a wrong understanding. To prove that these treatises are not the tenets of the Mind-Only school, but the ultimate Madhyamaka school, many arguments have been listed separately. Here, to avoid such doubts arising in us, and fearing too many words, I have not written them. Here, if someone thinks that in the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*, seven emptinesses are taught, and among them, the emptiness of one emptying another is said to be the worst of all seven emptinesses, and it is said that such emptiness should be completely abandoned. Therefore, what is the difference between your ultimate other-emptiness and that? If you think like that in your mind, that is not right. In the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*, one emptying another

The so-called inferior emptiness is like a house empty of people, or a vase empty of pillars. The Sutra states that it refers to the emptiness where mundane phenomena are mutually empty of each other. Moreover, the emptiness of reality's own nature and the emptiness of mundane, adventitious phenomena is an extremely significant difference. The Sutra states: "Great wisdom, what is the great emptiness of the noble wisdom of the noble ones? It is like this: I, myself, comprehend the noble wisdom, which is empty of all views and habitual tendencies of faults. Therefore, it is called the great emptiness of the ultimate noble wisdom." Therefore, among the seven emptinesses, the other-emptiness of the ultimate noble wisdom, which is empty of all views and habitual tendencies of faults, is called the great emptiness. Therefore, a house empty of horses and cattle, etc., is an example of ultimate other-emptiness, but it is not the meaning of emptiness, because it is neither mundane emptiness nor ultimate emptiness. Therefore, just as self-emptiness cannot represent ultimate emptiness, so other-emptiness cannot represent mundane emptiness. Therefore, considering mundane emptiness, the very fact that one thing is empty of another is an inferior emptiness, and therefore it is considered something to be abandoned. Such a clear distinction is the domain of the most profound among those with profound wisdom. If that is the case, in the Mother of the Victorious Ones Sutra, it says: "Even nirvana is like a dream, like an illusion." And, all-knowingness is also empty of all-knowingness, etc., all phenomena are shown to be self-empty, and other sutras also say: "Everything is said to be self-empty," then how should we understand these meanings? The statement that nirvana is like an illusion is the same in meaning as what is said in the Glorious Kalachakra Tantra: "In accordance with the illusory mudra." etc., but because now is not the time to explain it very clearly, it is put aside for the time being. In many sutras of the intermediate wheel of Dharma, such as the Mother of the Victorious Ones Sutra, in order to dispel the clinging to existence, it is mainly taught that all phenomena are self-empty.
