If not, is it the land's fault that the farmer doesn't plow? Son of the lineage, the Thus-Gone One has especially expounded and taught the twelve categories of scripture to all sentient beings. If sentient beings do not grasp them, it is not the Thus-Gone One's fault. Son of the lineage, whoever cultivates the path will attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Son of the lineage, you believe that all sentient beings possess the nature of the Buddha, so they will attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, just like a lodestone. Well said, well said! By the power of the cause of having the nature of the Buddha, one will attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and there is no need to cultivate the noble path. That is not the meaning. And so on, he spoke very many words, and in order to profoundly and ultimately extensively teach, upon hearing this sutra, the way in which immeasurable merit arises, together with the reasons, was well spoken. This was translated by Dewa Tsendra. Son of the lineage, the term "profound" has two aspects: the profoundness of suffering, impermanence, and selflessness, and the profoundness of others and friends. That is what should be done. Question: How are suffering, impermanence, and selflessness called profound? He answered: Some things are impermanent, and some things are permanent; some things are suffering, and some things are happiness; some things are selfless, and some things are with self. For example, sugarcane, rice, barley, wild barley, beans, lentils, and so on, all kinds of grains, from the time of flowering to the time of fruiting, are included in the category of impermanence. Once the husk is removed, they will benefit all sentient beings and are included in the category of grains, therefore they are called permanent. Why? Because they have become the nature. Question: Blessed One, will those not exist because of those? Just as those will not not exist because of those, is the Thus-Gone One called permanent? He answered: The Thus-Gone One can be compared to Mount Sumeru, but even the king of mountains, Mount Sumeru, will also in the destructive eon

Just as it will be destroyed, do not regard the Tathagata in that way. Apart from Nirvana, there is nothing that will not be destroyed. Follow the conventional terms in accordance with the world. The petitioner said: Blessed One, well said, well said! The Buddha said: Son of good family, similarly, all the Sutras and all the Samadhis, the fruit of practice, until sentient beings have not attained the Great Nirvana Sutra, are included in the category of impermanence. After hearing this precious Sutra, sons or daughters of good family, even if they are with afflictions, are included in the category of non-afflictions, and will also benefit all sentient beings. Why? Because they know that I have the Tathagatagarbha. After thoroughly knowing permanence, they will also enter. Thus it is said. Because this Sutra clearly shows the extremely complete and ultimate Tathagatagarbha, and whatever is extremely complete and ultimate is called the cause. Therefore

Some dharmas are impermanent, and some dharmas are permanent. Like this, son of good family, furthermore, the realm of activity of the Tathagata should be shown to be like birds seeking food. For example, birds and waterfowl, when the waters of the summer rivers are very turbulent, choose a stable place on the shore to dwell for the sake of their own eggs, and go to whatever is their realm of activity, that is their nature. Similarly, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha, after being born, places countless hundreds of thousands of beings in the true Dharma, like birds and waterfowl, having accomplished the benefit of as many beings as there are to be tamed, and appearing where there are other beings to be tamed. Therefore, some dharmas are suffering, and some dharmas are happiness, and whatever belongs to conditioned phenomena is suffering and destruction. Whatever is Nirvana is supreme bliss, because it has abandoned conditioned phenomena, therefore it possesses bliss. Like this and so on. For example, when the sun and moon are covered by clouds, they do not appear, and beings think that they do not appear, but they will not disappear either. Son of good family, similarly, when the Tathagata does not dwell in the world, like the sun and moon being covered by clouds, it seems as if the three realms are destroyed, but the three realms will not disappear either, just as they exist constantly, firmly, and solidly, and they will not be stained by faults either, this is the nature of the Buddhas. Son of good family, for example, neither is it a waxing moon, nor is it a waning moon, in the clear sky, when there is no moon and sun, a comet called "long tail" appears, possessing great brilliance, and after appearing, without being noticed by all the world, it disappears in just one moment. Son of good family, similarly, when there are no Buddhas living in the world, just as a comet appears in the clear sky, solitary Buddhas will also appear, and after placing countless hundreds of thousands of beings in the true Dharma, they will disappear. But the comet is always there, but beings cannot see it. That's how it is.
