Then (someone) shouted, "Raji, Raji!" The guards of the city heard his words and reported to the king. The king summoned the man and asked, "Hey, what is this Raji like? Where did it come from?" The man then reported the situation at that time to the king, saying, "O God, if I stole it, please cut off my hands and feet. I only saw it when I was playing with my friends, but I didn't even touch it." After hearing this, the king said to him, "What is the shape and color of that Raji like?" The man reported to the king, "O God, that Raji is like a goat." Then the king let the man go and said, "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid! Go happily! You may not have seen Raji in the king's palace before. The king's son found it when he was doing business in his own country, and it is difficult for the king to find it as well." After that, the king asked the attendants and ministers if they had seen Raji, and then he passed away. Others, even the wise ones, could not find Raji even when they searched for it. Then, another son of the king ascended the throne, and he found Raji. Others became kings without finding it. In this way, the kings who passed down from one generation to another had not seen Raji, and they only guessed that Raji was like this, like a sheep's horn, like a goat. Some people guess whatever they like. Similarly, Bodhisattvas, great beings, also appear in the world like the sons of border kings, and after showing the true nature of the self, they die. Then, those who are small-minded think that all sentient beings have such a self, and false views arise. For those who have no wisdom, they preach like things that cannot be done in a dream. When those worldly people hear these words, they also think that there is the essence of the self in their own bodies, but they do not understand the nature of the self. In this way, after hearing the words of the Bodhisattva, they have a wrong understanding, just like thinking that Raji is like a goat.

Thus, they discriminate in many ways. Worldlings wrongly conceive that a person the size of a thumb, or the size of a jambu fruit, or the size of a mustard seed, dwells in the heart and burns. Their view is transmitted from one wrong view to another, and it does not become true and happy. Therefore, I have taught non-self. However, worldlings still wrongly conceive that there is a self. Son of good family, therefore, I will also declare in my teaching, as its own truth and likeness, that I am like this, the Tathagatagarbha. Whatever is well spoken and in accordance with the Dharma, even if it belongs to worldlings, should be known as transcendent. So on and so forth. Question: If the ninefold scriptures clearly show that all sentient beings possess the Tathagatagarbha, why would it not become a view of self? How should I understand what I have heard? If so, it would also become superior to human dharma. The reply is, just as in the ocean, there are various jewels with eight qualities. Thus it is said. Similarly, if it is said that there is no Tathagatagarbha in the vast ocean of wisdom of the ninefold scriptures, it is the same. The Buddha's teachings are not their realm, and the Buddha's teachings are that all sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha, which is clearly not the realm of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas through reason and signs. In the Mahayana, there is no destruction of self and life. Therefore, the Buddha is called the Middle Way. Some say that there is a Tathagatagarbha in my body, and I will attain the fruit of Buddhahood, but I must exhaust all defilements. Those who say so are my Shravakas. The other is the fault of becoming superior to human dharma. I say so. Because I have declared it thus, they say this: Please look from the Buddha-ground where the Blessed One will obtain the supreme Dharma.

Therefore, if someone says, "I too shall become a Buddha Bhagavan," would that become an offense against the lama in human dharma? It would not become the fault of human dharma offending the lama, because it is gradually becoming a Buddha. I say so. Therefore, the Buddha's teachings are subtle and profound. And so on. The so-called "ga" refers to the meaning of essence, because all sentient beings possess the Tathagatagarbha, therefore it is called "ga." Just as a person sitting on the ground without divine eyes cannot see the traces of birds flying in the sky, so those who dwell in afflictions do not see that they possess the supreme essence. Therefore, I have shown no-self with obscure words. People without divine eyes, even if they think there is a self, cannot see it, because it is an affliction. The dharmas that are the aspects of affliction are called impermanent. Therefore, I have shown that some dharmas are impermanent. And so on, extensively taught. The Mahaparinirvana Sutra, transmitted from China, also says: Among them, if someone says this: The Tathagatagarbha exists, although it cannot be seen, but if all afflictions are removed, it can be realized. Or, even if only a moment of bodhicitta arises, by its cause and condition, one can obtain mastery over all dharmas. If someone meditates on the Tathagatagarbha as a state of no-self, emptiness, and peace, then that person will wander in limitless cycles of rebirth and suffer. Among them, if someone does not meditate in that way, even with afflictions, they can quickly be purified. That is because knowing the secret of the Tathagatagarbha is called the truth of the cessation of suffering. Among them, if someone diligently practices in that way, they are my close attendants. If someone does not diligently practice in that way, that is meaningless meditation, not the truth of the path to cessation. And so on. Then, the Bhagavan spoke to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Samantabhadra, the noble and glorious king: Nirvana is, the beginning
