Like a loving mother, for sentient beings with a determined mind who desire the Dharma, they rejoice when the rain of Dharma falls and are displeased when it does not; for sentient beings without a determined mind, they remain neutral, neither liking nor disliking the Dharma; for sentient beings who hate the Dharma and hold wrong views, they are happy when the rain of Dharma does not fall. To symbolize these three meanings, one should also combine these three metaphors in the world. Thus it is said. The way to enter without bias is: for example, large raindrops, heavy rain and hail falling, and in some places, due to the force of karma, rain of stones falling, and when the fire of lightning and hail fall, it causes harm to some small creatures living on the ground, while it does not harm some creatures that have escaped into mountain caves, etc., just as a cloud mass enters without bias. The subtle and profound, vast and immense rain of Dharma of the Buddhas, knowing it in a rough and skillful way, and when it arises from the clouds of compassion, it produces great benefit for those who have the fortune to purify their afflictions, while for those who have a firm attachment to self and no fortune, it will not appear for a while, but for their benefit and harm, it will enter thoroughly without any bias whatsoever. Thus it is said. There are three ways to subdue the flames, among which the way to pacify the flames of suffering is: the twelve links of dependent origination, which are encompassed by the three all-encompassing afflictions, due to the fact that they revolve in the cycle of samsara, birth and death, etc., it is also impossible to determine where the suffering initially arises from, and for those who do not cultivate the path of liberation, it is also impossible to determine where it will end, the path that manifests for beings who go there is fivefold: hell, hungry ghosts, and animals, which are the three lower realms, and humans and gods, which are the two higher realms. Therefore, just as there is never a fragrant smell in an impure object, in the cycle of the five realms, there is not even the slightest opportunity for happiness, only extreme suffering of three kinds and eight kinds, etc.

It is because they dwell in suffering. The distinctiveness of the suffering of samsara is also such that, like being constantly burned by a great fire, being stabbed by sharp weapons, and the feeling of pain arising from the contact of coarse salt, etc., on fresh wounds, they dwell in extreme unbearableness. Regarding this, the Buddha, with the cloud of great compassion that wishes to liberate them from suffering, the rain of the profound and vast sacred Dharma, if practiced accordingly, can pacify those flames of suffering, and constantly bestow it in accordance with each individual's fortune. So it is said. The way in which the wisdom of pacification arises in stages is: even gods have the suffering of death, transference, and falling, and humans also have the suffering of not finding what they seek, protecting what they have, hunger, thirst, fatigue, and so on. In order to realize this, wise people who possess the wisdom of knowing the reality of samsara and nirvana do not desire even the power of the gods, such as Indra, or the position of human power, such as a universal monarch, because of the wisdom gained from previous lives, and here also, with great faith in the immaculate words of the Tathagata, they follow, and after hearing and thinking with proper attention, all the defiled aspects of the fruit are suffering, all actions and afflictions are the cause of their arising, and the cessation of all these causes and effects of samsara is the cessation of nirvana, because it is truly seen with the wisdom of realizing the path of selflessness completely purified. So it is said. The way to practice acceptance and rejection according to what is known is: for example, wise people who want to be free from the suffering of disease and obtain the happiness of being without disease, after knowing what the nature of the disease is, should abandon the causes that generate the disease, such as unsuitable food, and dwelling in the happiness of being without disease is what should be obtained, and the method for that is good medicine.
