Just as the sound of the four dharmas eliminates carelessness. Similarly, for the infinite sentient beings of the world to be tamed, relying on the teachings of the Buddha, practicing meditation and formless samadhi, etc., arising from the cause of increasing virtuous roots, is able to completely destroy the fears of all sentient beings' afflictions and suffering, and is able to proclaim the Dharma of the supreme path of peace and nirvana, thereby attaining that state. That is its meaning. Therefore, among these examples, there are two ways of being superior. A brief explanation of the way of being superior is: Because for all the infinite sentient beings to be tamed, it universally accords with their respective thoughts, so it is not limited; ultimately, it unites them with the decisive and excellent state, so it is beneficial; temporarily, it unites them with the joy of manifest increase, so it is blissful; and it possesses the three kinds of miracles of magical power, universal proclamation, and subsequent teaching, so it is definitely liberating from suffering. Because it possesses the four qualities of Dharma, therefore, the voice of the Sugata, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, proclaiming the Dharma, is far superior to those sounds of heavenly instruments that are not limited, beneficial, blissful, and definitely liberating. That is its meaning. A detailed explanation of the excellence is: In the infinite heavenly realms, although the sound of the great drum pervades, it is limited for the sentient beings dwelling on the ground and does not reach their ears. But the sound of the drum proclaiming the Dharma of the Buddha, because the time is ripe, pervades all the worlds under the earth in the world to be tamed, so it is not limited, and therefore it is very excellent. Similarly, make an analogy. In the heavenly realms, even if there are countless different kinds of heavenly musical sounds, they are only for the sake of increasing the fire of attachment to external objects and the pleasures of desire, so there is no benefit. But the perfectly enlightened Buddhas, who possess great compassion, even with just one kind of sound, can make the sentient beings to be tamed and with fortune

It is particularly excellent because it leads to the attainment of Nirvana, which completely pacifies the masses of suffering and their causes for those who possess them. Furthermore, although the arrangements in the heavens are beautiful and the sounds of musical instruments, which are pleasing to the mind just by hearing them, are numerous, they are not a source of happiness because the mind is wild and increases distraction. The speech of the Tathagata, who is the embodiment of great compassion, is a cause for leading disciples to focus their minds on meditation and samadhi and to encourage thought, and is therefore a source of happiness, and is therefore particularly excellent. In short, the sounds of celestial instruments are not necessarily liberating. What is the cause of eliminating the suffering of gods, humans, and other beings who dwell in all the worlds without exception, and increasing the great, uncontaminated bliss? It is the speech of the Buddha, which is manifested in all the worlds without exception through the three miracles, and is said to be truly reliable, and is therefore particularly excellent because it necessarily liberates from suffering. That is what it says. The way in which these also enter through conditions is as follows: For example, just as someone who is without the sense of hearing does not experience or hear subtle sounds, so those who are without fortune do not hear the Buddha's voice or all the differences in sounds, and even if they obtain the ears of the gods, they do not enter the path of the ear, just as some do. Similarly, the Buddha's teachings are extremely subtle and profound, and are the object of experience only for the most subtle wisdom, but they do not become the path of hearing for all those who are to be tamed, but only for those who are without affliction, who are supremely intelligent, and who are endowed with great fortune. That is what it says. There are four ways to determine the extent of wisdom and compassion by the example of clouds: combining the dharma of increasing crops, combining the dharma of transforming from a vessel, combining the dharma of being independent, and combining the dharma of pacifying fires. Increasing the crops of
