Even if one possesses the great treasure of Lani, one would not say, "I am here." That person would not even know that the treasure is in their own home, just as one cannot escape the suffering of poverty. Similarly, although the treasure of the Dharmadhatu, which possesses limitless qualities free from outflows, abides in the home of one's own mind, sentient beings do not know this, like a poor person who has a treasure but cannot find it. Just as some wise people learn the method of extracting treasures, in order for those sentient beings who can be tamed to extract the treasure of the Dharmadhatu from under the ground of adventitious defilements, thereby manifestly attaining the Dharmakaya with two purities, in those limitless realms of the world, the great guide, the complete and perfect Buddha, is born and teaches the sacred Dharma. Thus it is said. The analogy of sentient beings having the nature of the Dharmadhatu, like sprouts from bark, is: How is it? Just as the seeds contained within the fruit peels of trees such as mangoes and palms, when they meet with the right conditions, will produce sprouts, and those with Dharma nature who are free from obstacles and will not perish, cultivate the fertile land well, water it in due season, apply ample fertilizer, and so forth, possessing all favorable conditions, thereby gradually achieving the state of a king of trees, possessing perfect things. Thus it is said. Its meaning is: The afflictions of sentient beings, such as ignorance, are like the sacs of fruit peels, and the Dharmadhatu or realm contained within them, the Sugata-garbha, is also like a tree gradually achieved through the completion of conditions. Through the accumulation of the two accumulations of merit and wisdom, relying on that and that, one gradually traverses the grounds and paths, thereby transforming into the nature of the King of Sages, the complete and perfect Buddha. Thus it is said. Again, it is said: For example, what moistens is water, what ripens is the light of the sun, what prevents decay is wind, what holds is earth, and warm seasons such as spring.

And, just as opportunities arise and, through various causes such as space, fruits gradually grow into the substance of trees from the gaps in the shells of fruits such as palm and ni amra, similarly, the afflictions of sentient beings are sudden, contained within a skin-like covering resembling a fruit peel. The essence of the perfectly enlightened Buddha, like a sprout from a seed, also grows from the assembly of causes, just as a tree grows. In the same way, the virtuous causes of the two accumulations that become the cause of liberation, through this and that, directly seeing the realm of Dharma, gradually increase, and ultimately the fruit of perfect enlightenment is attained. Thus it is said. Like using rotten clothes as an example of the body, to explain the state of the Dharma realm abiding in sentient beings: For example, a supreme image of the Tathagata made of various jewels, covered by the foul odor of rotten clothes, although located at a crossroads, is not seen by people. But after some time, a deva sees it, and in order to liberate it from that evil obscuration, just as he speaks and shows to those people the meaning of the image located in the middle of the road. Thus it is said. Its meaning is: The Buddha, with the eye of wisdom, seeing without obstruction all that is to be known, also sees the very nature of the Sugata-garbha covered by various sudden afflictions such as attachment, even pervading beings such as worms in excrement. Just as he removes the obscuration of the image, in order to liberate the realm of Dharma from sudden defilements, he shows the means of practicing the path, the immeasurable gates of the sacred Dharma. Thus it is said. Again it is said: For example, a beautiful image of the Tathagata made of the nature of jewels, covered by rotten clothes with a foul odor, located at the crossroads of the road, a deva with pure divine eyes.

Just as seeing the land, in order to be liberated from the evil that obscures it, it is clearly shown to people. Similarly, the realm of beings obscured by afflictions like tattered clothes, dwelling on the path of samsara, the Tathagatagarbha, even inferior beings such as animals possess it. Having seen this, in order to be liberated from adventitious defilements, the perfectly enlightened Buddha teaches the sacred Dharma in accordance with the capacity of the disciples to be tamed. This is its meaning. The example of a woman like a king illustrates the state of the Dharmadhatu in sentient beings: For example, some women are ugly in appearance, without a master or protector, dwelling in the dwellings of the helpless, inns, and crossroads, etc., but they conceive a son who possesses the splendor of a Chakravartin king and is endowed with marks. However, because of the obscuration of the womb, they do not know that the being in their womb is the lord of men, and therefore they suffer contempt and other fears, just like that. This is its meaning. Its meaning is: beings in various states of samsara are accompanied by suffering. Just like living in a home without a protector, adventitious afflictions, impure sentient beings, although they have a protector, they do not know it. Just like a woman who has a king in her womb. A woman has a protector because she has a king, similarly, sentient beings have a supreme protector because they have a certain Dharma nature, the self-nature is pure and stainless, the Tathagatagarbha is manifest, therefore it can save from all fears, just like the king in the womb of a woman. This is its meaning. Again, it is said: For example, some women wear tattered clothes stained with dirt on their bodies, have an ugly appearance, and yet conceive a son who will become the lord of the land.
