is the opposite of those. Perception, mind, and views are not inverted, but are seen as they truly are. The Tathagata sees all dharmas as they truly are, without inversion, and has destroyed the two obscurations, including their habitual tendencies, and is without elaboration. Thus, by distinguishing the support, the individual, into three, the supported dharmadhatu, the tathagatagarbha, also transforms into three aspects. This is what it says. From here on, the meaning of entering is explained in other ways through four kinds of meanings: the way of naming in three states for the meaning of just the name of the state, and the way of summarizing six meanings with three names. The way of naming three names is: the tathagatagarbha is impure due to adventitious stains, impure-pure, and the three states of utterly pure, in order, are expressed and indicated by the three different names of sentient beings, bodhisattvas, and tathagatas. This is what it says. The way of summarizing six meanings is: with the words such as the meaning of the essence itself, it includes the meaning of the cause, the meaning of the result, the meaning of the function, the meaning of having, and the meaning of entering. These six meanings summarize the element of self-nature purity that was explained in detail above. These three states of impure, impure-pure, and utterly pure are merely designated and indicated by the three names of sentient beings, bodhisattvas, and tathagatas, but there is no difference whatsoever in the essence of the meaning. This is what it says. Regarding the meaning of pervading everywhere like the sky, there is the way of non-conceptualization pervading all, and the way of no difference in the general characteristic. Among them, the way of pervading is: for example, just as the sky, which is the nature of non-conceptualization and without obstruction, follows and pervades all form without differentiation, similarly, the mind's nature of luminosity, the dharmadhatu that is primordially without stain, also pervades all states of individuals without differentiation. This is what it says. The way of being without difference is: the dharma of

That which is primordially pure by nature, the element of reality, is the common characteristic or suchness of all phenomena. Therefore, it equally follows and pervades all states of ordinary beings with faults, bodhisattvas with qualities, and tathāgatas with perfect qualities. For example, just as space follows and pervades all kinds of vessels, whether they are inferior earthen vessels, middling copper vessels, or superior golden vessels. This is what it says. Regarding the meaning of unchanging at all times, it shows the state of immutability, and explains its manner in detail. Therein, showing the state means: If one thinks that the element of reality changes because it transforms from a previous state with faults to a later state with qualities, then it is not so. Because in the previous impure state, afflictions and other (ཉེས་པ་, faults) are removable and adventitious, and not existing by nature. In the later pure state, powers and other (ཡོན་ཏན་, qualities) that have become manifest are inherently possessed from the very beginning, and not adventitiously arisen. Therefore, just as it exists in the realm of samsara before, it remains the same even in nirvana later, and never changes. This is the suchness or nature of this element of reality. This is what it says. The detailed explanation has three parts: how it does not change even in the state of being obscured; how it does not change even in the state of being impure and pure; and how it does not change even in the state of being utterly pure. First, the way in which space does not change, and the differences between them. The way of not changing has three aspects: a brief statement, a detailed explanation, and a summary of the meaning. Among them, the brief statement is: For example, just as unconditioned space pervades all conditioned forms, and is completely empty, but because it is subtle, not a gross form, it is never tainted by the faults of impermanence and so on of form. Similarly, this luminous element of reality, the tathāgatagarbha, which pervades all sentient beings as the nature of mind, is also self-
