Like, "Sentient beings temporarily abide in the different lineages of the three vehicles," directly realizing without obstruction the distinctions of lineage or realm is the power of knowing various realms. Similarly, in the past, having taught the Dharma in accordance with the inclinations of those to be tamed, like, "These sentient beings have faith in this among the three vehicles," directly realizing without obstruction all the distinctions of different thoughts of inclination is the power of knowing various inclinations. In the past, having become accustomed to all vehicles, directly realizing without obstruction all the distinctions of the paths of going in all of samsara and nirvana, such as the three realms and the three enlightenments, is the power of knowing all paths of going. In the past, having diligently undertaken limitless samadhis, directly realizing without obstruction all the distinctions of defiled afflictions and undefiled purity of the dhyanas, formless states, liberations, samadhis, and attainments that arise in the minds of other individuals is the power of knowing defiled and undefiled dhyana and so forth. In the past, not wasting virtuous roots and acting with mindfulness, directly knowing without obstruction all the actions of oneself and others in previous lives, along with their causes, is the power of recollecting previous existences. In the past, not exhorting other sentient beings and teaching the Dharma as it is, appearing to them, directly knowing without obstruction how sentient beings transmigrate from where they die and where they are born, and all the distinctions of good and bad in the intermediate state, is the power of the clairvoyance of the divine eye. In the past, having taught the Dharma in order to exhaust defilements, directly realizing without obstruction all aspects of the pacification of the afflictions of oneself and others and the exhaustion of defilements is the power of the wisdom of pacification. Thus, the ten powers of overcoming what is to be abandoned, appearing manifestly in accordance with one's own mind-stream, are what cause the destruction of the four maras, the opposing forces of oneself and others. Thus it is said. By way of illustrative examples

What must be done is: the power of knowing what is and is not the place of cause and effect, the power of possessing karma and its maturation, the power of knowing the various realms or types of beings to be tamed, the power of knowing the various different paths of beings, the power of knowing the various inclinations or thoughts of sentient beings, the power of knowing whether the faculties of those to be tamed, such as faith, are superior or not superior, the power of knowing the distinctions of defilements such as meditative absorption and attainment, and purification, the power of the direct perception of remembering past lives, the power of knowing death and birth with the divine eye, and the power of knowing the manner of the exhaustion of defilements of oneself and others. Each of these, in its own unique way, serves to penetrate, destroy, and cut through obstacles such as not knowing, which are like hard armor, strong walls, and dense forests, respectively. What are the ten powers of a king? Those are like the substance of material things, like a vajra. It is said that, as will be explained, the first six powers, such as knowing what is and is not the place, are similar to a vajra because they penetrate those obscurations of knowledge that are like hard armor. The three powers of knowing meditative absorption and so on, remembering past lives, and the direct perception of the divine eye, are similar to a vajra because they destroy the obscurations of meditative absorption that are like strong walls. The one power of knowing the exhaustion of defilements is similar to a vajra because it cuts through those obscurations of afflictions that are like dense forests. That is what is said. Fearlessness has two aspects: ascertaining the nature of the meaning and ascertaining it through examples. Meaning has two aspects: its nature is that, in the past, one taught the Dharma without stinginess, with an equal mind, and, starting from one's own benefit, one promised fearlessness by fully awakening to complete and perfect enlightenment in the manner of directly realizing all the phenomena that are known as they are and as many as there are. Before,
