Because it does not possess (eyes). It is impossible to realize directly as it is. For example, the mandala of the sun, which is pure, clear, and radiates light, is like not being able to see it with one's own eyes for a blind person. So it is said. To recognize the object to be realized, emptiness, what is the principle of emptiness that is free from the two extremes? The Tathagata realm, which is completely pure in its own nature, the ultimate truth of suchness, for this (suchness), there is nothing of the faults of the afflictions that need to be removed that existed before, because it is the nature of this (suchness) to be free from all adventitious stains from the beginning. Similarly, for the completely purified qualities, there is not even a little that needs to be established that did not exist before, because the qualities of ultimate truth such as power, etc., are spontaneously accomplished from the beginning and the dharma nature without distinction is the nature of this (suchness). Thus, for the realm of reality, suchness, the meaning of the two extremes, the wisdom of the subject, the ultimate knowledge, is truly observed and meditated upon, and from the extreme familiarity of practice, and the wisdom that directly sees the meaning of the true dharma nature arises in sequence, and liberation is attained from the adventitious stains to be abandoned. That is, in the path of seeing, liberation from the stains to be abandoned in the path of seeing; in the path of meditation, liberation from the stains to be abandoned in the path of meditation; in the ultimate path, complete liberation from the two obscurations and their habitual tendencies. Therefore, the adventitious stains that can be distinguished from the dharma nature, that have the characteristic of being able to be separated and distinguished, and that can be abandoned, these conditioned mundane dharmas, because (these) defile the nature of the Tathagatagarbha, it is seen (that it) is emptiness, and thus it is seen to be free from the extreme of existence. The ultimate Buddha Dharma, which cannot be distinguished from the dharma nature, which has the characteristic of being inseparable and indistinguishable, and which cannot be abandoned, the infinite qualities such as the powers of the Buddha, because (these) are not the emptiness of the dharma realm, so it is also free from the extreme of non-existence. Because of the mutual contradiction, the two of existence and non-existence

Also liberated from the edge of the earth, because of that very reason, also liberated from the edge of that solidified non-duality. The emptiness that is completely liberated from the two extremes or the four possibilities, the undeviating principle is only this. Thus it is said. In order to show the necessity of what they said, there are two: briefly showing the necessity of the question and answer, and explaining that meaning in detail. The brief question is: For example, how is the appearance of a cloud that is unstable and without inherent existence? How is the appearance of a dream that is enjoyed and experienced but without inherent existence? How is the image of an illusion that appears in various ways but without inherent existence? The intermediate teachings, the sutras that teach no characteristics, such as the extensive, intermediate, and concise Prajnaparamita, etc., there it should be known that from form to omniscience, all phenomena appear, but all are completely empty and without inherent existence. Having spoken extensively in this way, again, the final teachings, the scriptures that definitively determine the ultimate meaning, such as the Tathagatagarbha Sutra and many others, here, the words of truth spoken by the perfectly enlightened Buddha, all sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha of the Buddha, the realm of reality is naturally pure and luminous, and has been spontaneously accomplished from the beginning. Why is this said? If it was said that there was nothing before, and here it is said that there is, isn't that contradictory? The answer is: There is no fault of contradiction. Saying that there was nothing before was to prevent clinging to things as truly real, showing that there are no adventitious stains. And saying that there is here is to show that the realm of reality exists for the sake of five special necessities. This is the explanation. That is to say, if the Tathagatagarbha is not shown to exist, sentient beings will not know that the true Buddha is in their own hearts, and will think that someone like me cannot accomplish enlightenment, and will be discouraged, and will have the fault of not being happy to enter the path. And not knowing that it exists in others, they will think that these sentient beings are inferior, and having thought this, they will commit the fault of despising and disrespecting them. And not knowing that everyone, oneself and others, has it, they will think that the false, temporary stains that are not truly Dharma exist in what is not inherently true.
