Just as a delicious dish has only one flavor, the vast twelve divisions of scripture, etc., are taught in various skillful ways to gradually guide one to realize the essential meaning, as they are related to various meanings. Just as the essence of a fruit, which can be enjoyed, resides within various kinds of shells, so it should be understood. That is the meaning. Showing the example and meaning of Suchness: Whether the Tathāgatas appear or do not appear, this nature of dharmas exists. As it is said in the scriptures, the very nature of the mind, even when connected with endless suffering of afflictions, is still pure, luminous, and unchanging, therefore it is called Suchness. It is like unchanging pure gold, which does not change its nature in any situation; like beautiful gold, it is naturally virtuous and supreme; like stainless gold, it is without afflictions from the beginning and completely pure, therefore, this realm of dharma, Suchness, is said to be similar to the form and nature of pure gold. That is the meaning. Explaining the example and meaning of lineage in detail has three points: showing the two lineages with examples, how to attain the three bodies from them, and combining these with the examples. Among them, showing the two lineages with examples is: For example, a great treasure that naturally exists underground, which is not newly acquired through effort and has inexhaustible enjoyment; and like a tree with fruits that gradually grows in a garden through effort, the Buddha's lineage that can produce the three bodies should also be understood as two types: the naturally pure nature lineage of the realm of dharma, which has existed as the very nature of the mind since beginningless time; and the supremely excellent growth lineage, which is newly acquired through effort by doing things like listening to the Dharma with that as the goal, and which arises from the merit that corresponds to the part of liberation. That is the meaning. The way to attain the three bodies is: These two types of cause, nature, and growth lineage

If one wishes to attain the three bodies of the Buddha who has perfected the fruit, then, firstly, the naturally abiding lineage itself, having been perfected by a multitude of wisdoms, and being free from all adventitious defilements, the first body thus attained is the Dharmakaya, the essence of reality, which possesses two purities. Secondly, from the development of the lineage that expands and grows, through the perfection of the accumulation of merit, the Rupakaya, which appears to sentient beings near and far, the Sambhogakaya and the Nirmanakaya, these two are attained. This is what was said above. In terms of examples: The Svabhavikakaya, the essence of ultimate truth, naturally luminous, and supremely adorned with the glory of qualities, should be understood to be like the body of the Buddha made of jewels. Because it is naturally accomplished from the beginning and not newly made by effort; and because it is like a treasure of inexhaustible jewels of qualities such as strength. Because it possesses the great wealth of the kingdom of the profound and vast Dharma Mahayana, the Sambhogakaya, which appears in purity, is like a Chakravartin king enjoying the wealth of the seven precious gems and the four continents. Because of the power of the manifested ultimate truth body, in the minds of sentient beings to be tamed, only the appearance of forms that tame according to what is needed arises. Therefore, the Nirmanakaya, which appears commonly, is like a golden image. This is what was said above. The way to understand the meaning of the teachings through faith: The Dharmata, the ultimate truth of the self-arisen, perfect Buddhas, who are naturally accomplished from the beginning and not newly born from other causes, the Tathagatagarbha, is something that ordinary individuals, Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas who have newly entered the Mahayana, rely on definitive scriptures and their commentaries, and understand in a general way through faith and devotion, and not by looking at the profound Suchness.
