Like the latent tendencies of ignorance, etc., are obscured by things like the shell of a bird's egg and cannot be seen. What is said is that the latent tendencies of ignorance are like chaff. For example, just as an impure object is a terrible place that is disgusting and unpleasant, those who are attached to the desire realm, because they are attached to the pleasures of desire, etc., are the source of many evils. The three poisons of affliction arise universally, that is, they manifest violently, and like a huge impure corpse, they are a place of affliction and disgust. Therefore, the manifestation of the three poisons is like an impure thing. For example, just as a huge treasure that cannot be exhausted is obscured and covered by many soils, the poor do not know that there is treasure, and they cannot obtain the treasure. Similarly, for beings who are like the poor, the view of self-arisen wisdom, which has inexhaustible qualities, is obscured by the soil of the latent tendencies of ignorance and cannot be seen. Therefore, being possessed by the latent tendencies of ignorance is like soil. For example, just as the shoots, trunks, and branches of trees gradually grow, gradually peeling off the seed husks. Similarly, gradually realizing the ultimate truth of the Dharma realm, through realization, gradually cutting off the afflictions to be abandoned. Therefore, what is to be abandoned by seeing and what is to be abandoned by meditation are like the outer shell of a fruit. Associated with the direct realization of the nature of the four noble truths of the noble path, the root or main part of what is to be abandoned, such as the view of the aggregates of destruction that grasps the five aggregates as self and what belongs to self, that is, what is to be abandoned by seeing, the nature of reality that exists in the continuum of the Arhats, etc., who are to be abandoned, has already been realized, and what is to be abandoned by the wisdom of the path of meditation, etc., is the remainder of the coarse afflictions that have been exhausted, or like tattered clothes with stains. Therefore, what is to be abandoned by meditation is like tattered clothes, and the stains, etc., that depend on the seven impure grounds, obscure what is to be seen, and accompanied by diligence, (lead to) the womb...

It is like the dirt on a lotus. Like being freed from the womb, being completely liberated from those impurities, from the eighth bhumi onwards, there is no need for effort. Spontaneously, non-conceptual wisdom manifests, just as a Chakravartin king is fully matured and born. Therefore, the impurities dependent on the seven bhumis are like a womb. The subtle impurities associated with the three pure bhumis can be removed effortlessly, just as a gold statue is covered with a little mud. Know that this is destroyed by the vajra-like samadhi of the great antidotes. Therefore, the impurities associated with the three bhumis are shown to be like mud. Again, to summarize the general meaning: As explained in detail above in a Dharma-concordant manner, the nine types of adventitious impurities that obscure the Dharmadhatu, such as desire and hatred, are exactly the same as the nine examples such as lotus and honeybee, in order. That is the meaning. The nature Dharmadhatu is specially symbolized in three ways: briefly showing the three dharmas with nine examples, distinguishing their meanings separately, and explaining the nature of the distinctions in detail. Among these, the brief presentation is: The dhatu of the Tathagatagarbha, which is to be explained and summarized by the three aspects of nature, is the same as the nine examples that symbolize the essence, such as the Buddha image and honey. That is the meaning. The distinction is: What are the three natures? The nature of the Dharmadhatu Tathagatagarbha is the self-born wisdom Dharmakaya, and the unchanging Suchness, and also the gotra for attaining Buddhahood, these three. If you want to know how these three natures are symbolized by nine examples, then these three natures, in order, use the three examples of the Buddha image, honey, and grain essence, to know that the dhatu is the nature of the Dharmakaya. The example of gold can be used to know the nature of Suchness.

Furthermore, like the five examples of treasure, trees, precious body, wheel-turning king, and golden image, know that they are the nature of the lineage that accomplishes the three bodies. Thus it is said. The detailed explanation has three parts: a detailed explanation of the example and meaning of the Dharmakaya, showing the example and meaning of Suchness, and a detailed explanation of the example and meaning of the lineage. The example and meaning of the Dharmakaya have two parts: showing the classification of the Dharmakaya, and combining these with examples. The classification is: the Svabhavikakaya (nature body) also has two types by way of actual and imputed distinctions. The Dharmadhatu, the Tathagatagarbha, is extremely immaculate and naturally luminous, which is the object of the wisdom of self-awareness of the Buddhas themselves, and the characteristic of realization is the Dharmakaya. The corresponding cause of realizing or attaining it, according to the capacity of the disciples, is the Dharma of the Agamas from which various consciousnesses arise, which is the imputed teaching Dharmakaya. These can also be well distinguished by the distinction between what is to be said and what is said, or between the result and the cause. The teaching Dharmakaya also has two aspects: from the perspective of the ultimate truth of Suchness itself, starting from the Bodhisattva Pitaka, it teaches the profound Dharma; in accordance with the various thoughts of sentient beings, from the perspective of the conventional truth, starting from the Sutras and other twelve branches of scripture, it widely teaches various aspects. Thus it is said. Combining with examples: the Dharmakaya, which is to be realized and is naturally completely pure, is completely beyond all worldly phenomena, so there is no example in the world that can represent this Dharmakaya. Therefore, the self-arisen body of the Tathagata residing in the lotus and the element that is naturally completely pure are only slightly similar. The corresponding cause of realizing it is difficult to measure and has benefits, because it is the subtle and profound aspect of the ultimate truth, so honey shows that all Dharmas are of one taste in Suchness.
