The twelve sense bases of the senses and objects, included in the all-pervasive afflictions of birth that possess outflows, are those that generate them, karma and all-pervasive afflictions, and abiding in karma and afflictions, and clinging to impermanence as permanence, etc., constantly abide relying on conceptual thoughts of inappropriate attention. Inappropriate attention is the self-nature of the mind, clear light, abiding by relying on the naturally pure realm of phenomena, but the self-nature of the mind, clear light, the ultimate reality of suchness, is unconditioned. Inappropriate attention and afflictions, karma, and the all-pervasive afflictions of birth, these adventitious phenomena, for all, never abide relying on anything. Thus it is said. Combining these is, just as the earth mandala is formed relying on water, the five aggregates associated with grasping, the twelve sense bases, and the eighteen elements, know that they are accomplished relying on karma and afflictions, just as the water element becomes the cause of the earth mandala's accomplishment, the karma and afflictions with outflows of sentient beings, know that they are the cause of accomplishing the aggregates, sense bases, and elements, inappropriate attention is what generates karma and afflictions, therefore, regard and recognize it as the wind element becomes the support of the water mandala. The self-nature of the mind, the Tathagatagarbha, just as the space element becomes the support of everything, yet does not abide in anything, although it is the support of adventitious phenomena, its own essence does not rely on any basis and does not abide anywhere. Thus it is said. The way of wandering in samsara due to adventitiousness is, for example, just as the wind wheel abides in space, clinging that does not accord with the reality of things, the conceptual thought of inappropriate attention, abides by obscuring the self-nature of the mind, the clear light realm of phenomena.

Just as wind acts as a support for water, minds that engage in inappropriate attention are the cause of arising in samsara with outflows. Afflictions such as desire and so forth fully open opportunities and cause them to increase. Just as stirring a mass of water creates the great earth, from the water of karma and afflictions arise the aggregates, sense bases, and elements with outflows, and the births encompassed by suffering. In short, just as in the uncompounded realm of space, due to the power of time, the outer world of containers experiences the new destruction of what previously existed, and the new formation of what previously did not exist, so too in the realm of dharma without outflows, beings, due to the power of the three cycles of conceptualization and pervasive affliction, initially arise and ultimately are destroyed. This is what is said. The reason why its nature does not change is: The nature of mind, the clear light realm of dharma, like the uncompounded realm of space, does not depend on the immediate cause, nor does it depend on the simultaneous condition. Therefore, it does not depend on their collection either. Therefore, there is neither an initial arising, nor an ultimate destruction, nor even an abiding in between, so it is never changed by the three compounded dharmas. This is what is said. The summary of the meaning is: The clear light nature of the mind of all beings, which is the tathagatagarbha, just as the nature of space is not changed by clouds and smoke and so forth, so too it is never changed by purity and impurity and so forth. The clinging to what is not real, arising from inappropriate attention, and the pervasive afflictions caused by afflictions such as desire, hatred, and ignorance, the pervasive afflictions caused by karma, and the pervasive afflictions caused by birth, these removable, temporary stains do not cause the nature of dharma to be permanently defiled by pervasive afflictions, because its nature is completely pure. This is what is said. Explaining the distinctions between these, unchanging, devoid of arising and ceasing

the distinction, and the distinction corresponding to the three fires of transformation. Among them, being free from birth and death means: karma and afflictions, such as the aggregates of water, etc., cannot newly manifest and accomplish the luminous Dharmadhatu, the nature of mind, because it is unconditioned. Similarly, this Dharma nature will not be burned or destroyed by the fire of the end of time of death, the fire of disease of hell, and the fire of aging nature, which is inexhaustible and extremely pure and infinite, because the nature is immutable. Corresponding to the three fires means: the fire that destroys the world at the end of time, the fire that burns sentient beings in hell, and the three fires that burn depending on ordinary firewood, these are the fire of death that transforms life, the fire of disease that transforms the body, and the three fires of aging that transform age, combine them in order, and know that they are consistent and similar in Dharma nature. Even in the impure and pure states, there is no way of transformation, the true meaning of non-transformation through birth, etc., is explained, and in the ten bhumis, the Bodhisattvas confirm the merits. In explaining the true meaning, there is a way of appearing to transform even though it does not transform, and a detailed explanation of this meaning. First, the way of appearance is: the noble Bodhisattvas are liberated from the birth of newly formed aggregates, the death of continuous cessation, the disease that produces suffering, and the aging of continuous transformation, therefore, the Tathagatagarbha Dharmadhatu, according to its nature or reality, truly realizes and abides. Due to the dominance of karma and afflictions, being liberated from poverty and suffering such as birth, etc., is completely pure and without transformation. Even so, due to the true realization of the Dharmadhatu, the wise Bodhisattvas generate great compassion for those beings who have not realized it in this way, hoping that they will be free from all suffering and abide. For the benefit of others, through the power of aspirations and other forces.
