It is the very nature of being undifferentiated and all-pervasive in all states of defilement. The reason for being undifferentiated is that the naturally pure dharmadhatu is the common characteristic or dharmata of all dharmas. Therefore, it is equally in accordance with and pervades all states of ordinary beings with faults, bodhisattvas with qualities, and tathagatas with perfect qualities. For example, just as space follows and pervades all inferior earthen vessels, intermediate copper vessels, and superior gold vessels. That is the meaning. Regarding the meaning of being eternally unchanging, the state of immutability is shown, and its meaning is explained in detail. Here, showing the state means: If one thinks that the dharmadhatu changes from a state of having faults to a state of having qualities, then it is not so. Because in the previous impure state, afflictions and other faults are removable and temporary, not inherent. And in the later pure state, qualities such as strength are manifest, which are inherent from the beginning, not temporarily arising. Therefore, just as it exists in the realm of samsara, so it remains in nirvana, and never changes. This is the dharmata or nature of this dharmadhatu. That is the meaning. The detailed explanation has three parts: even in the state of being obscured and impure, there is no change; even in the state of being impure and pure, there is no change; even in the state of being completely pure, there is no change. The first point is that space does not change, and the differences between them are explained. Regarding not changing, there are three aspects: brief explanation, detailed explanation, and summarizing the meaning. The brief explanation is: For example, the unconditioned space pervades all conditioned form, although it is subtle, that is, not gross form, it is never stained by the faults of form, such as impermanence. Similarly, the mind...

For all beings, the radiant Dharmadhatu that pervades the nature of mind, this Tathagatagarbha, is also naturally pure, so the faults and afflictions of sentient beings, etc., will never be close to contamination, that is its meaning. There are five detailed explanations: the appearance of arising and ceasing of dharmas, the way that dharmata does not perish, indicating the way these abide, the way that sudden adventitious defilements become samsara, and the way that nature does not change. Among them, the way of appearance of arising and ceasing is: For example, the external vessel world, all of this depends on the open space of the sky to exist, first arising and forming, and finally decaying and disappearing, but the sky has no arising and ceasing, similarly, the Dharmadhatu Tathagatagarbha, which is not assembled by cause and condition, depends on the unchanging nature, the inner senses of sentient beings first arise and develop, and finally decay and disappear, but dharmata has no arising and ceasing, that is its meaning. The way that dharmata does not perish is: For example, conditioned things are burned by the three fires of the end of time, hell, and self-nature, but the unconditioned sky has never been burned by these three fires, similarly, sentient beings are burned by the three fires of death, etc., but the essence of the Dharmadhatu, will not be burned by the fire of death at the end of time, the fire of disease in hell, and the fire of aging self-nature. That is its meaning. Indicating the way these abide, there are metaphors, meanings, and the combination of the two. Among them, the metaphor is: When the world is formed and abides, the great earth wheel depends on the water wheel, and the water depends on the wind wheel, and the wind depends on the sky to abide, but the sky does not depend on cause and condition, so the wind wheel and the water mass and the earth element, etc., conditioned things, do not depend on anything to abide, that is what is said. The meaning is: Like the metaphor, the five aggregates and the eighteen realms.
