When the king arrived at the gate of the ever-blooming flowers, someone asked who he was, and he said, "The wise one is the elephant of direction, Chandrakirti does not speak, completely pure. Born from the hero of poetry, skilled in composition, who else but me is victorious over all directions?" After saying this, someone asked, "Is it Dharmakirti?" He said, "The world knows me there." Then the king and he became patrons, and he composed the seven treatises on valid cognition. If the sun of speech of Dharmakirti were to set, then all the Dharma would fall asleep or perish, and those who are not Dharma can now be proud. So this special statement was written on the gate of the palace, and all opposing adversaries were defeated, and the Buddha's teachings were made to flourish for a long time. The so-called seven treatises are the extensive Commentary on Valid Cognition, the intermediate Treatise on Certainty, and the concise Drop of Reason, these three being the main treatises like the body. The four that arise from them are: arising from self-benefit inference, the establishment of other minds, and the science of debate, these four being the branch treatises. (Lower vol. 831) The way the three were translated into Tibet is: During the early dissemination of the teachings, some of the later seven treatises were translated, as well as the commentary on Dulha and others. During the later dissemination, Magewa Lodro translated the Sutra, the Commentary on Valid Cognition, the Treatise on Certainty, and the related great commentary. In particular, Ngok Lotsawa made many new translations and revisions, and established the system of teaching and practice. As for the commentaries, in relation to the Treatise on Certainty, the tradition of teaching has remained almost unbroken, but later Sakya Pandita greatly promoted it and established the system of translation and teaching. Phakpa Rinpoche held examinations on the Commentary on Valid Cognition at Sangpu, etc., making it very prosperous. Kunken Tenpai Nyinje also became very proficient in epistemology, and wanted to establish a monastic college and a college of valid cognition, but it was not successful. However, he was skilled in finding the profound essence of meaning, rather than engaging in mere verbal games like throwing dice, and he was a great lord of eloquence. External valid cognition is similar to the five limbs of the inner path, and although the methods of debate seem the same, the commitments of meaning are different, so the difference is great. Then, can't it be said to be a common science? This refers only to the words of debate. This is the case with valid cognition. The case of inner science. The fifth of the five sciences, inner science, is, outer

The unsurpassed state of liberation and omniscience (lower vol. 832), which is not the same as playfulness, etc., is the immaculate teaching of the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, which reveals the profound and wonderful means of accomplishing it, namely the sutras, tantras, and commentaries. That is, the subject matter is contained in the three trainings and the object of expression in the three pitakas, as well as the four inner schools and the outer and inner mantras. That is, the Vaibhashika school does not accept that phenomena are devoid of reality. In contrast, the Sautrantika school believes that the three actions of doing, acting, and karma are not established from the external world, but are imputed by the mind. The Chittamatra school, having blocked external objects, believes that the wisdom of the emptiness of the two, grasper and grasped, is truly established. The Madhyamaka school is the reasoning that all phenomena from form to omniscience are accepted as devoid of reality, and these are the four great schools. Similarly, in mantra, although it is not accepted that things exist substantially in relative truth, the existence of imputation is not denied, and the three divisions of Kriya Yoga are taught to transform it. In relative truth, too, with the view and conduct of non-duality of phenomena, the nature of the result is realized as the Dharmakaya of the union of appearance and emptiness, and it is cultivated without intention or distraction, with the samadhi that is free from the terms of existence and non-existence, the three inner tantras of Anuttarayoga. These are slightly mentioned in the first chapter, such as the way they are classified into the three turnings of the wheel of Dharma and the nine vehicles, according to the distinctions of the Great and Small Vehicles, and the provisional and definitive meanings. As for how that doctrine spread in India and Tibet, it is recorded in the extensive Dharma history of the Nyingma teachings and terma, and in the history of the new mantras (lower vol. 833), so there is no need to write it again for the sake of wisdom. That is all about inner science. About the five minor sciences. Incidentally, let me briefly explain how the five minor sciences arose. That is, in the Manifestation Sutra, it says: "For the sake of pleasing sentient beings, the Bodhisattva composes treatises of praise for others; treatises that express many meanings with one word; treatises that compose verses by changing and combining heavy and light letters; as well as reciters; jokes; language.
