Now (p. 519) he engaged in many years of asceticism and rigorous practice. Sometimes, in order to serve the lama and provide for sustenance, he went to Dak Kong to tame disciples, offering all the materials he obtained to the Accomplished One Rinpoche as conducive conditions for practice. At that time, when he was twenty-three years old, in the Earth-Hen year, he was blessed by the Second Buddha of Oddiyana, and Guru Rinpoche, together with a retinue of dakinis, actually appeared and bestowed prophecies of profound treasures. In particular, when he went to circumambulate the red and black Rakta Lake of Zhingkyong Gaya Dhara, he saw smoke billowing from a rock on the shore of the lake and red sparks flashing. There, he stuck a twig into it with his hand, and a hole appeared all the way through. From within, he obtained three scrolls of the initial catalog of the profound treasure, and he felt immeasurable joy, wondering whether it was a direct vision or a dream. His mind went into a state of complete absorption, and he became so overwhelmed that he was reprimanded by the Accomplished One Rinpoche. After that, in the intervals between encounters, all appearances spontaneously arose as the self-radiance of great bliss, and a good experience blazed effortlessly. At this time, he spent much of his time in the clear light of dreams, being blessed and prophesied by deities, lamas, and dakinis. After that, he intended to go to the feet of Tertön Rinpoche Dudul Dorje, but although he prepared to go several times, he was unable to do so due to obstacles. Then, as instructed by the Accomplished One Rinpoche, with the intention of establishing a firm foundation (p. 520), in the Iron-Sow year, he went to Hor via Nyangpo. In order to tame disciples and benefit beings, the Accomplished One Rinpoche was also invited from Tsari that summer. He offered all his possessions, including horses and livestock, to Tsalbuk, and purified them. Furthermore, with pure intention, he served with as much devotion as possible, seeing the lama as a Buddha.
