General Topic Six: About Monasteries and Throne Successions, etc. General Topic Six: About Monasteries and Throne Successions, etc. Briefly recounting the biographies of the eight lamas whose history traces back to the source of water at the snowy mountains. Sixth, speaking of monasteries and throne successions, etc., in the early period of Buddhism, there was no other different religious system other than the Great Secret Nyingma, so these two monastic communities flourished greatly and the tradition of teaching and practice was very prevalent. However, from the time of the later spread of Buddhism, as many different religious systems and schools arose, the Nyingma gradually declined. Due to the force of each school establishing its own glory, the partiality of the Tibetans caused the Nyingma teachings to gradually decline. Nevertheless, from upper Ngari to lower Do-mad China, and from southern Man to the border of China, in this vast land of snow mountains, there are many monasteries large and small, and mantra monasteries represented by practice centers and abbots, as well as hermits who dwell in mountain caves, etc., it seems that there is no place that is not covered by these. Since no one can narrate the detailed history of all of these, it is not appropriate to dwell on them here. However, among these monasteries, some are widely known, and those whose Dharma lineage is still flourishing today, I would like to briefly recount their throne successions. Starting from the north and south of U-Tsang, from the beginning of the later spread of Buddhism, the three mantra kings So, Zur, and Nup extensively spread and maintained the tradition of teaching and practice for a long time. The initial thrones seem to be U-ba-lung and Gsang-sngags-gling, etc., but the early throne successions of these monasteries have already been clarified in the previous chapter on the Early Translation Teachings. Since then, I have not seen any records of the throne succession passing from one generation to two. It seems that due to the kindness of the family lineage and the upper and lower treasure troves in the direction of the monastic community, they have flourished greatly. For example, when Serpent-bodied Nyang Rinpoche Nyima Oser was practicing on the rock of Dzod-phu in Lho-brag, a white Dakini holding an arrow banner in her hand appeared from a circle of light, and said, "Child, do not stay here, go to the place where mothers and dakinis gather," and so on.

After the prophecy, he went to Smawochak (sMra bo lcog), performed the consecration ceremony of the monastery, and established a monastic community. He unearthed many treasures. He protected many fortunate ones with the activities of the Dharma, so that political power and dominion increased, and the foundation for the flourishing of the teachings was laid. He performed the ritual for Ma gcig Jo 'bum ma to give birth to sons, and 'Gro mgon Nam mkha' 'od zer and Nam mkha' dpal were born. Until the age of sixty-nine, he performed countless deeds for the benefit of the teachings and (lower volume, 226) sentient beings. He prophesied future events and the rise and fall of the monastery, and so on. After entrusting the teachings to his son Nam mkha' dpal, he passed away to the pure land. The detailed biography of this great treasure revealer has already been mentioned above when the treasure was revealed. This is only the initial establishment of the Smawochak (sMra bo lcog) monastery. Hereafter, to briefly record some of the deeds of later generations, 'Gro mgon Nam mkha' dpal was born in Smawochak (Sra bo lcog) as the son of his father Nyang Rinpoche (Nyang Rin po che) and his mother Ma gcig Jo 'bum ma. From a young age, he possessed countless inconceivable signs of accomplishment. He heard all the teachings from his father like water pouring from one vase to another. By studying medicine, he became proficient in medical science. In addition, he heard limitless instructions and treasures from Zhipo Dudtsi (Zhi po bdud rtsi) and others. After his father passed away, he became the abbot of the monastery. At his father's funeral, he built a golden "Hundred Thousand Tantras" (rGyud 'bum), and sent it to Nepal to practice, built the Three Protectors (rTen rigs gsum mgon po), and invited them to Tibet. In addition, he built one hundred thousand copies of the expanded "Do Mang Kyapo" (mDo mang skya pod rgyas pa), and one hundred and thirteen golden scriptures, and so on, countless sacred objects. He invited a Kashmiri Pandit to perform the funeral rites for his father's body. In order to continue the Pandit's grace, he built a large dam, and was the first of all those who built dams. During these times, the Lhasa government was enslaved, so stones were brought from Nyang Long (Nyang long yul) and U-Tsang (dBu stod) and other places, like flocks of sheep arriving at the banks of the Kyi River (skyi chu), and so on, his miracles and abilities are beyond words. He offered many gold tiles to the top of the Jowo Shakyamuni statue (Jo shak). In Samye Monastery (bSam yas), he offered butter lamps with more than a thousand "khal" of butter, and similarly, he also offered many offerings and other virtuous deeds to Tradruk Temple (Khra 'brug) and other border-taming temples. He also took charge of many monasteries. His disciples also included the treasure revealer Gu
