The two Erba and the Shangpa Changkhyer (upper part, p. 420) people came together. There, Zurchungpa had nothing to offer besides wool. The other three offered gifts. The Lama said, "To see whether they have turned their minds away from samsara, bring some tsampa and chang." The two herders didn't want to eat it, the Shangpa ate a little, and Zurchungpa ate it all up. The Lama said, "Leave the wool and the chang, and return the turquoise and copper to their owners." The herders were unhappy and said that returning the gifts was a sign that they wouldn't be taught the Dharma, and then they left. From that connection, the criticism of the 'Pa' Dharma arose. There, the Lama asked Zurchungpa, "What is your clan?" He was afraid that if he said he was from the same clan as the Lama, it would become a competition, so he said, "I am a Zurchung." Therefore, that name stuck in Ladakh. Knowing that he was capable, the Lama had him study, and he became supremely intelligent. At first, he was very poor, so he would take the tormas that the Lama had given away and eat them like tsampa and chang. The other monks said, "He smells sour and stinky from the chang. He doesn't offer the chang to the Lama, nor does he give it to his Dharma brothers." The Lama said, "Today, have Zurchungpa come to chop wood." Afterwards, they had someone search Zurchungpa's hut, and it is said that under a corpse, there was nothing but a kapala bowl full of tsampa and chang. Then the Lama said, "Zurchungpa, if you are having trouble making a living, come to our kitchen." He said, "I dare not say that I am defiling the Lama's property, I can only endure hardship." One day, the Lama took a birch bowl (upper part, p. 421) that held nine 'phul' and asked him, "Can you give me something to drink?" He asked for tsampa and chang, and the Lama filled the bowl and gave it to him to drink. Then he said, "Bring more." And he drank it. The Lama asked, "Is there any more?" He said, "There is about a 'bre'." The Lama said, "I am not rich. If I were rich, you would become great just by calling on merit. However, you will gain great merit through your respectful service to me." Then he gave him three 'khal' of grain and said, "When this is used up, don't take anything else." After hearing this, Zurchungpa exerted himself day and night in whatever place there was of hearing, contemplation, and meditation. Because he was an emanation body, the treasury of his wisdom burst forth, and he generated inconceivable experiences and realizations, but he didn't even have the means to ask about the scriptures.

Even when it was of no use, Lhaje Zurpoche had two wealthy female practitioners named Jomo Yumo in a blue house called Pan. He said, "You stay here." I replied, "I will not marry." He said, "Do not underestimate your knowledge. I know the limits that the World Honored One has forbidden. It is enough to use their possessions to request empowerment, copy scriptures, and listen to all the Dharma without leaving anything out. The two of them also accumulated merit, and your affairs will also be accomplished, which is good." There, I listened as he said, and all the recitations were completed. He also said, "Now you should not stay here, gradually move the scriptures and other offerings to me." I did so, what could not be done? The two of them also said thank you very much. (Volume 1, page 422) The Lama said, "You seem to be able to accomplish the benefit of beings. In this degenerate age, you must promote the Buddha's teachings and benefit many beings. This is also a great kindness to the two of them. If you hide this, neither self-interest nor the interest of others will be accomplished." There, I listened as he said, and understood the Lama's intention as it was. Once, there was a stupa in front of Lhaje's residence, and Zurchungpa was circumambulating it, he saw it. His feet did not touch the ground, but were about an arrow's length above the ground. The Lama thought, this may be an emanation, it is truly amazing, and he was very happy. Similarly, wherever Zurchungpa went, in the empty desert, when he was very distressed by the heat, someone would bring him a drink; when he went to the top of an empty mountain to meditate, someone would bring him food because he was hungry, etc. All the wishes he desired were fulfilled effortlessly. Now he thought, even if I do the work of benefiting beings, it will be successful. The Lama also said, "Now you preach the Dharma." There, he preached the Do Gongdu (Sutra Which Embodies All the Buddha's Intentions), and three hundred copies of the scriptures appeared at once. At that time, the Lama made great praises to Zurchungpa, and someone said slightly disrespectfully, "The Lama praised the position of the leader." He knew that slandering the Lama was a very great sin, so one day, in a place called Emar Dorjepo, when all the teachers and disciples went to turn the wheel of Dharma, in an alley
