Although he devoted many years to practice and teaching, greatly benefiting beings, he only focused on the hermitage of Zur Chenpo, which also seemed to be a distraction from virtuous conduct. So he said he would go to the rock cave of the Lord of Bodong (upper volume, p. 399) and there engage in solitary meditation. The disciples also followed, so he said, "If you also hope to attain enlightenment at my place, then nothing other than meditation will help. Leave worldly distractions behind and dedicate yourselves to practice. I too will only practice." So the master and disciples each practiced separately. Then, after a while, a prophecy from the dakinis urged him to go to the lower lands, saying that there would be great benefit. So he went to the valley of Tanak. In a rock cave facing east with an owl's nest, he practiced the Yantak Nine Deities, and directly saw the face of the glorious Yantak Nine Deities. Thus, from the name of the place of residence, he became universally known as Lama Owl Valley. There, the provisions for practice were also scarce, and signs of excrement appeared, so he prepared to travel to the lower regions. The local earth lord, Zere Meten, showed himself and requested him to stay. He said, "I have also received a prophecy to go to another place, and I also have no provisions, so I must go." The earth lord said, "I will offer the livelihood of the master and disciples. Please, by all means, stay." So he agreed to stay for a while. The rich man of Tanak said, "Owl Valley has received blessings." When the sick went to the lama, they felt comfortable just by seeing his face. He requested blessings, and immediately after the tsokhor, he was freed from illness. Similarly, countless blessings were given to those tormented by disease and evil spirits, so people had faith and his body (upper volume, p. 400) accumulated great merit. The lama thought, "This common merit is a great obstacle to accomplishing the supreme. I must go to Nine Peak Mountain to meditate." As he was about to leave, the earth lord said, "The provisions for practice have been offered, please, by all means, stay." He said, "Your livelihood is also difficult, and it will be disturbed by gatherings, so I must go this time." The earth lord, with his face full of tears, said, "If you do not stay, please also consider me with compassion." So he offered his life essence. The lama gave him the lay vows and commanded him to protect the Dharma.
