So! Then, the land of Lanka in the Himalayas is not the Lanka of the Jambu continent's island attendant, but the place where the Blessed One was invited by the ten-necked son of the lord of Lanka, Sound, and where the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra was spoken, is an islet separated by the ocean to the southeast of the Jambu continent. That place was formerly occupied by the Rakshasa (Vol. 1, p. 138) Sound, so it is famous as such, but later the land of the Rakshasas became empty and was occupied by the captain Lion, and now it is called the island of Ceylon. In that place, when the former human king Ramaṇa destroyed the ten-necked Rakshasa Lanka, he built a stone bridge over the great ocean between the Jambu continent and those two, and so now a huge pile of stones is clearly visible in the sea. Sometimes ships get stuck on the pile of stones and have to go around, and it is said that the ground is covered only with red stones because it is contaminated with the blood of the ten-necked Rakshasa who was killed, and it takes only a morning to go there. In the center of that, there is Maṇa Kuṭa, that is, the valley of good intentions piled up, surrounded by a chain of rocky mountains, which ordinary people cannot pass through. The Ro Bo that exists there is also commonly called that, but in reality it is a strong or Malayan mountain, and all the characteristics are complete. As it is said: On the peak dwells the king of skills, on the surface stands a throne of white rock, decorated with the appearance of a lion stretching into the sky, eight medicinal herbs grow at the roots, it is not afflicted by the disease of gathering, the crown is Kalantaka, a place where two people live alone, the one who possesses treasures is adorned with Brahma, the fortunate ones can climb easily, the unfortunate ones cannot escape. That's what it says. The merits that are more worthy of praise than other islands are even more excellent in other islands. Near the foot of that mountain, to the north, there is the great stupa of Guṇavīra, etc., and many stupas where the relics of the Thus Gone One (Vol. 1, p. 139) reside, and to the west of that mountain, there is Buddha Śaraṇa, the tree where the Thus Gone One sat in meditation for seven days, and Jālī, Musti, Katalī, Maṇīka, Rāṇī, Pana, Kuñjara, Ghari, Padmanī, Nari, Bhāladdeśa, Siṅgala. The waters are all pearls.
