On the right mountain grew various kinds of trees with luxuriant branches and leaves, bearing hundreds of delicious fruits, which people enjoyed; on the left mountain grew sweet grass, which the herds of animals ate to their fill and were satisfied. On the third day, when King Śucinta made offerings, the water used by the Blessed One to rinse his mouth fell on the ground, forming a jewel pool of two hundred yojanas, adorned with the seven precious substances and filled with lotuses of various colors. The rays of light corresponding to the colors of these lotuses illuminated the entire sky and earth, and all the attendants gazed at and praised this magnificent sight. On the fourth day, when King Indravarman made offerings, eight great rivers flowed from the four sides of the jewel pool, and the sound of the Dharma arose from the flowing water, which then circled back and flowed into the pool itself. On the fifth day, when King Brahmadeva made offerings, golden rays of light emanated from the mouth of the Blessed One, illuminating the entire great thousand world. All sentient beings who touched this light were freed from the three sufferings and the five obscurations, and their bodies and minds became exceedingly blissful. On the sixth day, when the Licchavis made offerings, the Blessed One enabled the many attendants to know one another and to realize their own virtuous and non-virtuous actions, and everyone rejoiced and praised him. On the seventh day, when the Shakyas made offerings, those attendants each became a universal monarch, possessing the seven precious substances and a thousand sons, and they saw minor kings and (Upper Tibet, page 58) ministers attending to them, and they were filled with joy. On the eighth day, Indra invited the Blessed One, and as soon as the Blessed One's right foot touched the threshold of the fragrant chamber, the earth shook. The six heretical teachers cried out, "Come and help us!" The five hundred ascetics understood their call and immediately came there. Rays of light emanated from the Blessed One's body, and when they saw the Blessed One as radiant as the sun, they developed faith, renounced the world, and attained Arhatship. The Blessed One, together with those five hundred Arhats, went to the Great Miracle Hall, and amidst hundreds of thousands of attendants, sat on the lion throne prepared by Indra. At that time, the wicked householder couple Nganpa Zangjin and the novice Kelkye

And, the novice nun who does not regress, the bhikkhuni Utpalavarna, and the great sons of Maudgalyayana each reported: "We will defeat these heretics with our miraculous powers." The Blessed One instructed: "The heretics are calling me, not you, so sit quietly. I myself will display miraculous powers." Then, the Blessed One instructed King Light-King: "Who is it that requests the Tathagata to display miraculous powers together with the heretics?" The king rose, folded his palms, and said: "It is I, Blessed One, please show your miraculous powers no matter what." Then, the Blessed One disappeared from his seat, and walked in all four directions, stood, sat, and lay down, performing the four postures (Volume 1, page 59), and emitted various rays of light. Flames blazed from the lower part of his body, and streams of water flowed from the upper part, and he also performed illusions. He said: "This is a transformation shared by the Shravakas." Having said this, he sat on a lion throne, and Brahma and Indra worshiped and revered him from the left and right. Again he instructed: "Great King, who is it that requests the Tathagata to display miraculous powers?" Light-King also reported: "It is I." Then, the Blessed One touched the ground with his hand, and the nagas brought forth lotuses from the earth, lotuses as large as chariot wheels, with a thousand golden petals and vajra tips. The Blessed One sat on the pistil of that lotus. Similarly, many such lotuses appeared, and many emanation Buddhas sat on each one, filling the space up to Akanistha. Some of those emanation Buddhas were burning, some were shining, some were raining, some were emitting lightning, some were prophesying, some were asking questions, some were answering, and they were performing the four postures. Just as children could see the body of the Buddha without obstruction, so it was blessed. Kings from various places, together with their retinues, and countless gods and humans, watched the miraculous transformations without blinking their eyes, and prostrated continuously. They were filled with joy and scattered offerings of flowers and incense. The emanation Buddhas said simultaneously: "Until the sun rises,
