Please do so. Then, the Bodhisattva, seeing the unsightly postures of the sleeping concubines, felt utterly weary in his heart. He awakened the sleeping charioteer and said, "My auspicious deed is to accomplish all purposes. Tonight, before the demons devour, let it be accomplished by Don Grub. Charioteer, do not delay, hurry! Also give me the adorned royal horse." Having said this, the charioteer offered the adorned royal horse, the auspicious horse named Bangden. After that, upon the mount, accompanied by many gods and the service of the four great kings, he departed from the expanse of the sky. At that time, with the posture of an elephant looking back, he looked back at the road to Kapilavastu and said, "Until I have obtained the supreme path taught by the Buddhas, I shall not return again to the base of the city of Kapilavastu." Having thus manifested, from the village of the land of Mene that can be inferred, when he had gone six yojanas, dawn broke. There were also six yojanas between that land and the land of the Shakyas, so in total he had gone beyond twelve yojanas. Then, having dismounted from the horse, he sent back the charioteer (upper part, p. 38). In front of a pure stupa, with a sword like a blue lotus, he cut off his hair and threw it into the sky, where the gods took it for the sake of offering. A son of the gods, having transformed into the form of a hunter, offered a saffron robe, which he took and gave the rough garment to him. Having put on the saffron robe, he himself took ordination and became a fully ordained monk. Seventh, the act of practicing austerities: After that, in order to show to those who are to be tamed who enter the undefiled conduct of the Bodhisattva that supreme Bodhi must be attained through immeasurable austerities, in Vaishali (Yangpachen), he visited Alara Kalama, the son of skill and knowledge, and in Rajgir (Gyalpoi Khab), he visited Udraka Ramaputra, the son of perseverance, who demonstrated the spheres of nothingness and the peak of existence. Although he quickly mastered their methods, he realized that those samadhis and practices were not the path to liberation from the faults of samsara, so he went to the great river Nairanjana, where the river flowed slowly and the banks were level and delightful.

Then he thought, "Alas, this Jambudvipa has entered the age of the five degenerations. Sentient beings are fond of the inferior, filled with hordes of non-Buddhists, engaged in various views, perceiving what is not refuge as refuge, perceiving what is not auspicious as auspicious, and perceiving what is not pure as pure. In order to lead these beings onto the correct path, to show that futile actions and deeds are not wasted, and to refute those who perceive purification through evil asceticism and harsh penance, he resolved to begin distinguishing between asceticism and penance. Thus, he entered into the all-pervading samadhi for six years. At that time, Lgas-sde bzang-po served him, and he accepted one sesame seed, one grain of rice, and one juniper seed that were offered to him. In this way, for the first two years he ate only one grain of rice, for the middle two years he drank only one drop of water, and for the last two years he ate nothing at all, practicing asceticism in samadhi for six years. At that time, the gods urged him with verses, and the Buddhas of the ten directions, together with their retinues, awakened him from the inferior path and strongly urged him to go to the Bodhi tree. There, in order to dispel fatigue and exhaustion, he consumed a small amount of coarse food, which displeased the five excellent ones, and they went to Varanasi. After that, he thought that if he could find some rags for robes, and then, a village girl named Legs-skyes-ma's servant, named Brubs-ma, died and was wrapped in a shroud and abandoned in the cemetery. He took that cloth, and Indra placed it on the victorious stone, and he washed it in the pond called Hand Pond, and obtained a sewn patchwork robe. The son of the gods, Drii-ma-med-pa, offered him a divine garment dyed in saffron color, and he wore those clothes and went to the village for alms in the early morning. As the gods had previously advised the village girl Legs-skyes-ma, she made sixteen portions of essence from the milk of a hundred cows, poured it into a glass vessel, filled it with honey milk porridge using a golden spoon, and offered it to him. There he said, "What do you seek as the purpose of this offering?" She replied, "Prince Don-grub, the universal monarch,
