For valid cognition (tshad ma), the object to be measured (gzhal bya) is established even without reliance. Since your (opponent's) valid cognition is established, what is the use? If you think that the object to be measured is established without relying on valid cognition, Then what is the use of thoroughly examining whether your valid cognition is established? Why? Because those objects to be measured for which you examine those valid cognitions are established even without valid cognitions, so what is the use of your valid cognitions for that? If your valid cognitions depend on the objects to be measured to be established, Then your valid cognitions and objects to be measured will necessarily be reversed. If you think that it is not permissible to fall into the fault mentioned earlier, so valid cognitions depend on the objects to be measured, then your valid cognitions and objects to be measured will be reversed: your valid cognitions will also become objects to be measured, because the objects to be measured thoroughly prove them; the objects to be measured will also become valid cognitions, because valid cognitions prove them. Or, if the establishment of valid cognition causes the object to be measured to be established, and the establishment of the object to be measured also causes valid cognition to be established, then you will not establish either. If you think that the establishment of valid cognition causes the object to be measured to be established, because it depends on valid cognition; and the establishment of the object to be measured also causes valid cognition to be established, Because it depends on the object to be measured, then you will not establish either. Why? If valid cognition establishes the object to be measured, and those objects to be measured also have to prove those valid cognitions, Then how will those unestablished objects to be measured be proven? Because the cause of their unestablished nature is not thoroughly established. If the object to be measured establishes valid cognition, and those valid cognitions also have to prove those objects to be measured, Then how will those unestablished valid cognitions be proven? Because if it is the cause of unestablished valid cognitions, then how will those unestablished valid cognitions be proven, since the cause is not thoroughly established?

If it is said that the father can generate the son, please tell me, what is generated by what? If someone says that the father can generate the son, and that the father is also generated by that son, then please tell me, what is generated by what? Likewise, you say that valid cognitions (pramana) establish what is to be measured (prameya), and that the valid cognitions themselves are also established by what is to be measured. Then, please tell me, what is established by what? Because both father and son hold the characteristic of being the cause, therefore, I have doubts about this. Therefore, please say, who is the father and who is the son? Because the father and son, as shown before, the son is the generator and the father is the generated, both are the cause, holding the characteristic of the father; being the generated, holding the characteristic of the son. Therefore, I have doubts about this, so who is the father and who is the son? Likewise, what are your valid cognitions and what is to be measured? Then what are the valid cognitions? What is to be measured? Because both of these are the establisher, they are valid cognitions; being the established, they are what is to be measured. Therefore, I have doubts about this, what are the valid cognitions? What is to be measured? Valid cognitions are not established by themselves, nor by each other, nor by other valid cognitions, nor by what is to be measured, nor without a cause. By themselves, like direct perception is not established by direct perception itself, inference is not established by inference itself, scripture is not established by scripture itself, analogy is not established by analogy itself. By each other, like direct perception is established by inference, analogy, and scripture; inference is established by direct perception, analogy, and scripture; analogy is established by direct perception, inference, and scripture; scripture is not established by direct perception, inference, and analogy. According to their own nature, direct perception, inference, analogy, and scripture are also not established by direct perception, inference, analogy, and other scriptures. What is to be measured is everything included in its own object and other objects, nor by one, nor without a cause, nor by all combined. The reasons stated before are just like this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
