Furthermore, what you said about 'having errors' is also non-existent. You also said: 'If temporarily observing things through direct perception, thereby refuting, then by what means are things observed? Direct perception does not exist. What are inference, scripture, analogy to measure, and what is to be established by inference and scripture, and the meaning to be established by analogy? Direct perception has already answered.' Regarding what you have said, it should now be explained: If observing certain things through direct perception and so on, thereby establishing or refuting, since these do not exist, I have no fault. If I observe certain things through direct perception, inference, analogy to measure, scripture, etc., or through any of the four valid means, thereby establishing or refuting, but I have not actually observed anything, therefore I neither establish nor refute. Since this is the case, your accusation that if observing things through any valid means such as direct perception and refuting them, then these valid means do not exist, and the meaning to be understood through them does not exist, this accusation does not apply to me. Moreover, if these things are completely established through the valid means themselves, then how do you completely establish these valid means? If you think that, just as a measurer measures what is to be measured, these things to be measured by you are completely established through the valid means themselves, then by what are these four valid means, namely direct perception, inference, analogy to measure, and scripture, completely established? If temporarily thinking that these valid means are established through other valid means, and things are completely established through valid means, then your promise is violated. Or, if valid means are established through other valid means, then it will be endless. If you think that what is to be measured is established through valid means, and these valid means are established through other valid means, then it will lead to endlessness. If it leads to endlessness, what fault is there? To this, it should be explained as follows: If it is endless, then the first cannot be established, the middle cannot be established, and the last cannot be established. If it leads to endlessness, then the first cannot be established. Why? Because these valid means are completely established through other valid means, and those valid means are established through other valid means, therefore the first valid means does not exist. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the first does not exist, how can the middle exist? And how can the last exist? Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that 'these valid cognitions are thoroughly established by other valid cognitions.' However, if they are established even without valid cognitions, then the statement is undermined. If it is not so, then state the distinction in reasoning. If you think that even without valid cognitions, these valid cognitions are thoroughly established, and the objects to be measured are thoroughly established by valid cognitions, then your statement that 'valid cognitions establish objects' will be undermined, and it will also become different, with some objects being thoroughly established by valid cognitions and some not. If so, then one must state the distinction in reasoning as to why some objects are thoroughly established by valid cognitions and some are not. Since this has not been shown, this idea is also unreasonable. Here it is said: 'Just as fire illuminates both itself and others, so too do valid cognitions establish both themselves and others.' If it is asserted that valid cognitions establish their own nature and the nature of others, just as fire illuminates its own nature and the nature of others, then it is explained here that this statement is inconsistent. Like a pot in a dark room, fire does not illuminate itself because it is not visible before it is illuminated. If fire exists in a dark room before it illuminates, and then it becomes illuminated by the fire, then it illuminates itself. But this is not the case, so this idea is also unreasonable. Furthermore, if according to your words, this fire illuminates its own nature, then fire should also burn itself like it burns others. If, as you say, fire illuminates the nature of others as well as its own essence, then this would be the consequence. If the first does not exist, how can the middle exist?
