If it is not so, then because it is not so, there is no difference. 2-328 Because the word is not empty, and all remaining things are empty, it is impossible to have a difference. Therefore, I will not use that reason to distinguish that the word is not empty, and all things are empty. What you say is both wrong and different, so you say that you should also explain the particularity of the reason, which is not right. Also, like 'not emitting sound'. Your idea is unreasonable. Because there is sound here, the sound that arises is prevented. What you say needs to be explained. Just like 'not emitting sound', the example you gave is not right. Because that is using sound to prevent sound, but this (what we say) is not like that. This is not our example. Just as some people say 'not emitting sound', the sound itself emits and prevents sound, the emptiness of the word does not prevent (things). Why? Because the example is using sound to prevent sound, but this (what we say) is not like that. We say that all things are without inherent existence, 2-329 Because of the lack of inherent existence, they are empty. Why? If the lack of inherent existence itself prevents the lack of inherent existence, then the lack of inherent existence is prevented, and inherent existence will be fully established. Just as 'not emitting sound' is using sound to prevent sound, if the lack of inherent existence of the word prevents the lack of inherent existence of things, then this example would be reasonable. But here, the lack of inherent existence of the word also prevents the inherent existence of things. If the lack of inherent existence of the word prevents the lack of inherent existence of things, then because the lack of inherent existence is prevented, things will have inherent existence, and because they have inherent existence, they are not empty. We speak of the emptiness of things, not of non-emptiness, so this is not a good example. Or, some people through illusion, think that a woman is a woman, generate inverted clinging, and then use illusion to prevent it, it is like that. Or, just as some people have inverted clinging to an illusory woman (who is actually empty), thinking that she is a real woman. 2-330 Therefore, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If someone mistakenly believes that emptiness gives rise to attachment, then the Tathagata (the Thus-Gone One, meaning the enlightened one) or a Shravaka (Hearer, meaning disciple) of the Tathagata will emanate an emanation to dispel that mistaken notion. Similarly, my words of emptiness, like an illusion, are to dispel those who believe that all things have inherent existence, these things being like an illusory woman, which in reality has no inherent existence. Therefore, here, it is appropriate to use this example to establish emptiness, but not the other examples. Or, because the conclusion to be proven and the way of reasoning do not use the same words. If we do not accept conventional truths, we cannot explain. For example, the way of reasoning such as 'what is to be proven' and 'not emitting sound' are essentially the same. Why? Because all things are undifferentiated in terms of inherent emptiness, and sound arises dependently, therefore it is not inherently existent. Therefore, because there is no inherent existence, it is correct to say that 'the existence of sound is to dispel (the clinging to inherent existence)'. Furthermore, without accepting and relying on conventional truths, one cannot explain that all things are empty. Without accepting conventional truths, one cannot teach the Dharma, as the scriptures say: 'Without relying on conventional truths, one cannot show the ultimate truth; without relying on the ultimate truth, one cannot realize Nirvana (liberation)'. Therefore, when both the inherent emptiness of all things are established, just like my words, all things are empty. Furthermore, you say: 'If one thinks that the cessation of cessation is also like that, that is not good, because then you would have a thesis, and we do not have the fault of a thesis.' This needs to be explained: If I indeed have any thesis, then I would have the fault you mentioned. But I have no thesis, so I have no fault. If I indeed have any thesis, then, as you said, I would have the fault of previously admitting the characteristics of a thesis. But I have no thesis at all. Therefore, for those things that are all empty, ultimately peaceful, and devoid of inherent existence, where would there be a thesis? Where would there be the characteristics of a thesis? Where would there be the fault arising from the characteristics of a thesis? Because you cling to the characteristics of a thesis, that is why you have a fault.
