If twenty, thirty, forty, or even thirty-six (arguments) cannot be established, then the objects you want to measure, since they need to be understood through pramana (means of knowledge), then these measurable objects exist. However, if your pramana cannot correctly understand these measurable objects, then it is unreasonable to say that those pramanas also exist. Furthermore, what you said: 'The wise are skilled in the realm of dharma, constantly cherishing good thoughts and others regarding the nature of all virtuous dharmas.' This needs to be explained: 'Those skilled in the realm of dharma, who proclaim the nature of virtuous dharmas, thus clearly distinguish what is to be explained.' Being skilled in the realm of dharma, contemplating the goodness of virtuous dharmas, you should also clearly distinguish: 'This is the nature of goodness, these are virtuous dharmas, this is the cognition of goodness, this is the nature of the cognition of goodness.' Likewise, everything should be indicated in this way. However, because it has not been indicated in this way, it is unreasonable to say that the nature of dharmas has been revealed as it is. Furthermore, if the nature of virtuous dharmas arises dependently, then how can something else become its own nature? If the nature of virtuous dharmas arises dependent on the aggregation of causes and conditions, then, if it arises dependent on something else, how can the nature of virtuous dharmas be established? The same should be applied to non-virtuous dharmas, etc. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that the goodness of virtuous dharmas has been revealed, and likewise, the nature of non-virtuous dharmas, etc., has also been revealed. Or, if the nature of virtuous dharmas arises without depending on anything, then one would not abide in brahmacharya (pure conduct). If the goodness of virtuous dharmas arises without depending on anything, and you think that non-virtuous dharmas, etc., are also like that, then one would not abide in brahmacharya. Why? Because if that were the case, it would be abandoning dependent origination. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To abandon dependent origination is to abandon seeing dependent origination. Not seeing dependent origination means not having a valid object of focus. If dependent origination is not seen, the Dharma (law, truth) is not seen. The Blessed One (Bhagavan) said, 'Monks, whoever sees dependent origination sees the Dharma.' Because the Dharma is not seen, there is no abiding in the Brahmacarya (pure conduct). Alternatively, abandoning dependent origination is abandoning the arising of all suffering, because the arising of suffering is dependent origination. Abandoning the arising of suffering is abandoning suffering. If there is no arising, from what does suffering arise? To abandon suffering, to abandon the arising, is to abandon the cessation of suffering. If suffering and its arising do not exist, by abandoning what does one attain cessation? If there is no cessation of suffering, for what attainment does one follow the path that leads to the cessation of suffering? Therefore, the Four Noble Truths (Arya Satya) do not exist. Because they do not exist, there are no fruits of the ascetic life (Sramana), since the fruits of the ascetic life are rightly attained through seeing the Truths. Because there are no fruits of the ascetic life, there is no abiding in the Brahmacarya. Furthermore, if the cause is impermanent, all phenomena become permanent. There is neither Dharma nor non-Dharma, and there are no worldly conventions. If that is the case, what fault is there in abandoning dependent origination? The fault is that there is no Dharma, no non-Dharma, and no worldly conventions. Why? Because all of this is dependent origination, and if dependent origination does not exist, from what does it arise? Moreover, (if everything is) with its own essence, not dependent origination, and arising from no cause, then it becomes permanent, because things without a cause are permanent. Then, not abiding in the Brahmacarya also becomes permanent. This also contradicts the established tenets (of Buddhism). Why? Because the Blessed One said, 'All conditioned phenomena (Samskara) are impermanent.' Those with their own essence are permanent by their very nature. Unwholesome and indeterminate (Avyakrta), and definite emergence (Niryana).
