‘In all circumstances, upholding the vows is excellent.’ Place these Pratimoksha (individual liberation) vows within. If there are no openings, or if stupas and statues have already been placed, then relics are not necessary. Place the written Dharani (mantra) and Pratimoksha vows on top or in a measuring container. The fifth step is supplication: The master and disciples stand, holding flowers and musical instruments, and supplicate through remembering the qualities: ‘This Bhagavan (Blessed One), Tathagata (Thus Gone One), Arhat (Worthy One), Samyaksambuddha (Perfectly Enlightened One), Vidyacharana-sampanna (Endowed with Knowledge and Conduct), Sugata (Well-Gone One), Lokavidu (Knower of the World), Anuttara-purusha-damya-sarathi (Unsurpassed Trainer of Men), Shasta deva-manushyanam (Teacher of Gods and Men), Buddha (Enlightened One), Bhagavan (Blessed One), possessing the complete benefits of cause and effect, the Buddha Bhagavan who has realized all dharmas, I consecrate.’ ‘This Bhagavan, possessing the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment (bodhipaksa-dharma), the ten powers (bala), the four fearlessnesses (vaisharadya), the three mindfulnesses (smrtyupasthana), great compassion, and in short, the dharmas that accomplish the Shravaka (hearer) and Arhat (one beyond learning) Buddhahood, free from all faults, possessing the immeasurable qualities of the Sugata, the Buddha Bhagavan, I consecrate.’ ‘This Bhagavan, possessing the unsurpassed discipline and the five aggregates (skandha), the three miracles (pratiharya), the three samadhis (meditative stabilizations), the three trainings (shiksha), the four brahmaviharas (divine abodes), the four dhyanas (meditative absorptions), the four noble truths (arya-satya), therefore, for its non-reversed true wisdom, mastering all objects of knowledge, abandoning all afflictions, and completely victorious over the four maras (demons), the Buddha Bhagavan, I consecrate.’ ‘This Bhagavan, having perfected the six paramitas (perfections), having accumulated the merit and wisdom accumulations, adorned with the thirty-two major marks (lakshana) of a great being, beautified with the eighty minor marks (anuvyanjana), the body of a great being that is never satisfied by seeing, and without any discord upon seeing, the ultimate perfection of its form body, becoming the root of all beings, this Buddha Bhagavan, I consecrate.’ Saying this, when saying ‘I consecrate,’ everyone should say the words together in unison. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
