Now, know that among those, from the herdsmen, the kings who held the tradition of Ḍombhi (ḍombi, a low-caste) were three: the King, the Essence, the one with the Luminous Edge. The one who held the tradition of the oral instructions was the one with the Edge of Wisdom. All four were subject to the authority of the tantric explanations. Regarding the tradition of the Madhyamaka school, which considers the Pratimoksha vows to be corporeal, there is evidence in the 'Treatise on the Five Aggregates' of Madhyamaka: 'The form arising from correct adherence.' In the commentary 'Lamp Garland' on the Compendium of Trainings, it says: 'The form arising from correct adherence is immovable.' In the commentary 'Kumuti,' it says: 'The form of the vows arising from correct adherence is non-manifest form.' What is the intention behind citing these? The answer is: In general, in the Madhyamaka treatises, the names and terms of the aggregates, elements, and sources are used as explained in the Abhidharma treatises. The terms spoken in the Abhidharma treatises are retained as they are. Regarding the meaning of speaking of such terms, the Vaibhashikas consider it to be characterized by form, while the Sautrantikas and above consider that what is said in the Abhidharma Sutra is merely named as form, but in reality, it refers to the mental factors together with the mind of renunciation. For example, although it is called the six realms of the world, it cannot be established as the world. In the Difficult Points Commentary on the 'Entering the Middle Way,' it says: The object of compassion that focuses on the Dharma is the non-learners of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and those who abide in the subsequent attainment of the ten bhumis, not those who abide in meditative equipoise. It merely states the reason why birth and so on do not appear, and it does not mean that one has attained the birth of the ocean of perfect enlightenment wisdom. Like this, there is no difference between the meditative equipoise of the ten bhumis and the wisdom of the Buddhas in realizing the Dharmadhatu of self-nature purity. Therefore, there is no room for other doubts to arise. When examining the state of a sprout, one does not acknowledge the sprout as a phenomenon, and there is no examination of the way of existence of assertions and consequences, so there is no fault. When distinguishing the difference between Svatantrika and Prasangika, the difference between the phenomenon and the six, such as the assertion, is distinguished, so the six, such as the phenomenon, must be acknowledged, so these two are contradictory, and this fault does not exist. Because when distinguishing the difference between Svatantrika and Prasangika, distinguishing the difference between the phenomenon and so on is distinguishing the difference in the way of asserting the phenomenon and so on. Merely by that, when examining the state of the phenomenon, it will not become acknowledging the phenomenon. In the Difficult Points Commentary, it says that in conventional truth, the result arises from the Alaya... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is no contradiction in accepting the basis of samsara as the Alaya-vijñana (store consciousness), because karmic results depend on the mind. Therefore, the Alaya-vijñana is accepted as the basis of karmic results. If one accepts oneself as the actor of karma and the experiencer of its maturation, but does not accept oneself as the basis of karmic results, how can this contradiction be resolved? The answer is: Generally, the imprints of karma depend on the Alaya-vijñana, as Nagarjuna stated in his commentary on the 'Salu Ljangpai Do' (Sutra on Rice Seedlings), and as Je Tsongkhapa stated in his commentary on the inseparability of samsara and nirvana. Therefore, it is necessary to accept this. However, the Chittamatrins (Mind-Only school) do not accept a truly existent Alaya-vijñana that is separate from the seven consciousnesses as they posit. They believe that there is only one consciousness, the Manas-vijñana (mind consciousness), which has three aspects: one aspect is the continuous clarity, one aspect is the occasional grasping at self, and one aspect is the occasional engagement with the six objects of dharma. These three aspects are sequentially designated as Alaya-vijñana, Klesha-manas (afflicted mind), and the sixth consciousness, Manas-vijñana. Therefore, if one can imprint the imprints of hearing and so on when one first enters the path, then the imprinting of the imprints of karma and afflictions is effortlessly established even when one has not entered the path. If one accepts oneself as the actor of karma and the experiencer of its maturation, it is not necessary to accept oneself as the basis of karmic results, because here, 'basis' refers to the ground for imprinting imprints, and the actor of karma is the one who imprints imprints, not the ground for imprinting imprints. For example, in the system of Vijnanavada (Consciousness-Only school), the engaging consciousness is the one who imprints imprints, but not the ground for imprinting imprints. If the Dharmakaya (body of truth) and wisdom of the Buddha, etc., are not included in one's own continuum, then for someone on the Accumulation Path, is the Dharmakaya and wisdom that directly appear their own mind, or the mind of someone else? According to Acharya Chandrakirti's view, it can be divided into three situations, such as worldly agreement. In the first situation, it is not necessary to accept external objects; in the second situation, it is not necessary to accept appearances as mind. This is because this is to refute those who accept appearances as mind and believe that the Buddha does not have a Dharmakaya and wisdom included in their own continuum. Regarding Acharya Chandrakirti's view that there are three fruits on one path, in the commentary on 'Entering the Middle Way', the verse from the 'Ratnavali' (Precious Garland) is quoted: 'Like a fire without a cause, without a place to rely on, without anything to take, it passes into nirvana.' This directly shows that ultimately, three vehicles are taught, namely, the Shravakas (hearers) and Pratyekabuddhas (solitary realizers) attain nirvana without remainder and no longer take rebirth. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
