Who will hold it? **10-2-9a** **The way of listening to the teachings** The second part, starting with 'From the Lama', consists of six verses. Those noble beings hear teachings like the ocean from the great Yongszin (Yongszin, meaning tutor or spiritual guide), and it is the nature of Dharma to become a treasury of qualities. They also heard this: From the moment they met at the feet of Dharma Lord Zangpo (bZang po, meaning virtuous), until the autumn of the Dragon year, they listened to the ripening empowerments of Hevajra, Guhyasamaja, and Chakrasamvara, the instructions on the generation and completion stages, and the explanations of the tantras. After that, they received immeasurable blessings of Dharma, such as the Vajra Garland and the Kriyasamuccaya. In the Fire Male Horse year, in order to dispel the signs of obstacles for Dharma Lord Zangpo, they stayed in retreat. One day before the end of the retreat, this Rinpoche and Ngari Lama Konchok Odzer (dKon mchog 'od zer) were called to his presence. He spoke extensively about the visions of practice and the ways to dispel obstacles, saying, 'Even if something goes wrong this time, I will not regret it for others.' He regretted that the teachings of Kriya and Charya could not be revived as desired, and that you did not help, especially that you did not receive the complete Lamdre (Lamdre, Path with Result) teachings from the master Kon Gyal (dKon rgyal). This Rinpoche had a thought, no matter what the Lama's intention was, this time he had to ask for a result and make it the basis of practice. After that, he went from the Dharma Lord to Zimu (Zimu, place name), saying, 'I will do the practice of Chakrasamvara.' The Dharma Lord said, 'I still have the oral Lamdre, listen to it.' He said, 'Listening to Lamdre requires many offerings and hardships. I do not have such ability.' The Dharma Lord said, 'In the past, when the teachings were flourishing, the disciples had a strong interest in the Dharma and were very diligent and generous in Dharma. In order to establish a special interdependence in the disciples' minds, the past Lamas would ask for many offerings. Now that the teachings have declined and the oral teachings are almost lost, if a qualified disciple appears, even if the oral teachings and empowerments are given like pouring, it must be done in the hope of benefiting the continuation of the teachings.' **10-2-9b** He said that now is the time for the oral Rinpoche (precious oral transmission). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He followed these precepts and undoubtedly saw the special interdependence of protecting all beings. Then, in the summer of the Horse year, he listened to the Oral Instructions (Tibetan: གསུང་ངག་རིན་པོ་ཆེ།) and practiced them in his heart. In the autumn, he went to Mus (Tibetan: མུས།). While residing in Mus in the Sheep year, Lama Nam Lowa (Tibetan: བླ་མ་ནམ་བློ་བས།) requested him to benefit Buddhism in general and to protect the Sangha, birds, and wild animals of this region in particular, and offered him the monastery. He and his disciples requested many teachings such as Hevajra (Tibetan: ཀྱེ་རྡོར།, Sanskrit Devanagari: हेवज्र, Sanskrit Romanization: Hevajra, Chinese literal meaning: Drinking Blood Vajra) and Sarvarika (Tibetan: ཀུན་རིག་, Sanskrit Devanagari: सर्वरिक, Sanskrit Romanization: Sarvarika, Chinese literal meaning: All Knowing), and established the tradition of practicing these teachings. After that, in the autumn, after the feet of Chöje Zangpo (Tibetan: ཆོས་རྗེ་བཟང་པོ།) were invited to Ngari (Tibetan: མངའ་རིས།) by the lord Ame Pal (Tibetan: ཨ་མེ་དཔལ།), the master's nephew, Yönnu Zangpo (Tibetan: གསང་སྔགས་དབོན་པོ་གཞོན་ནུ་བཟང་པོ།), and seven companions, with the instructions of Chöje, came to invite this Rinpoche. Therefore, he arrived in Sakya (Tibetan: ས་སྐྱ།) in the thirty-first year, the Monkey year. In the summer, he resided in Shak Zang Kubum (Tibetan: ཤཱཀ་བཟང་སྐུ་འབུམ།) and turned the wheel of Dharma suitable to the individual capacities of the monks of Kham Tsang (Tibetan: ཁམས་གཙང་།). After that, in the autumn, as soon as Chöje Rinpoche returned from Ngari, he once again requested practical guidance on the Oral Instructions for seven months. Initially, about seventy people requested, but in the end, only fourteen, including this Rinpoche, completed the practice. He bestowed the four ripening empowerments for the four mandalas (Tibetan: དཀྱིལ་འཁོར།, Sanskrit Devanagari: मण्डल, Sanskrit Romanization: Mandala, Chinese literal meaning: Center) as the basis, and by meditating on the four paths of liberation, each person developed their own four views, and he instructed them with the oral transmission that leads to the four tenets and the four fruits. Therefore, the water of the power of the causal stage and the path stage did not dry up, the lineage of blessings did not decline because experiential realization arose, and the samaya of the instructions was not violated because everything could be transformed into Samadhi (Tibetan: ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན།, Sanskrit Devanagari: समाधि, Sanskrit Romanization: Samadhi, Chinese literal meaning: Concentration). With this power, he developed the perception of the Lama as the actual Buddha, thereby fulfilling the wish for devotion. Regarding these teachings, there are two types: the Long Transmission and the Close Transmission. The Long Transmission: The first is the one transmitted from Zhang Gonpawa (Tibetan: ཞང་དགོན་པ་བ།), which is recorded in the catalog of Jetsun (Tibetan: རྗེ་བཙུན།). Among them, the four teachings on Pramana (Tibetan: ཚད་མ།) include: 'Nyagma, Commentary on the Treatise on Pramana' (Tibetan: བསྟན་བཅོས་ཚད་མ་ལ་འགྲེལ་པ་གཉགས་མ།), twenty-two notes on the topics (Tibetan: སྐབས་ཀྱི་ཡིག་ཆུང་ཉེར་གཉིས།), twenty-four verses summarizing the meaning (Tibetan: དོན་བསྡུས་མའི་ཚིགས་བཅད་དེ་ཉེར་བཞི།), regarding experiential Pramana, there are seventeen teachings derived from the treatises (Tibetan: ཉམས་མྱོང་ཚད་མ་ལ་གཞུང་ལས་འཕྲོས་པའི་ཆོས་བཅུ་བདུན།), the Middle Path without a root (Tibetan: རྩ་བ་མེད་པའི་ལམ་འབྲིང་པོ།), the summarized path with its own root (Tibetan: རང་གི་རྩ་བ་ཅུང་ཟད་དང་བཅས་པའི་ལམ་བསྡུས་པ།), the four great trees of guidance (Tibetan: ཁྲིད་ཀྱི་གཞུང་ཤིང་ཆེན་པོ་བཞི།), and the five teachings that generate realization (Tibetan: རྟོགས་པ་སྐྱེད་པར་བྱེད་པའི་ཆོས་ལྔ།). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
