Question: If it transforms, it is not so. Because there are cases where one result arises from many causes, and many results arise from one cause, therefore it means that causes and results are diverse. Question: If it encounters uncreated karma, it is not so. Because the result of the karma accumulated in one's own continuum will definitely be experienced, therefore it means that causes and results are determined separately. All of these are contained in the power of the word 'dependent arising'. The eighth topic is divided into five aspects. These internal and external dependent arisings have the characteristic of profound causes. Because through the two aspects of 'no maker' and 'having causes', it excludes the views of 'no cause' and 'arising from dissimilar causes'. It is profound in terms of its own nature, because it has the meaning of appearing as 'self' (Tibetan: བདག, Sanskrit Devanagari: आत्म, Sanskrit Romanization: ātma, literal Chinese meaning: self), but actually without 'self'. It is profound in terms of arising, because through the two aspects of 'no other power' and 'no birth', it explains that although results arise from various conditions, these conditions are not planned in advance by wisdom. It is profound in terms of abiding, because through the two aspects of 'impermanence' and 'momentariness', it explains that although there is no abiding in ultimate truth, it appears to be continuous in conventional truth. It is profound in terms of arising, because through the four aspects of the continuous flow of cause and result, it explains that the way in which results arise from causes is extremely difficult to understand. Furthermore, it can also be viewed as profound from other perspectives. For example, one's own essence does not remain for even a moment, yet it can also be regarded as continuous. Without the movement of prior planning, the result that can be inferred arises from the capable cause, which can also be observed. Although there are no sentient beings in ultimate truth, they can be established as sentient beings in conventional truth. Although there is no karma maker, the result of the karma that has been done will not be wasted. Therefore, things that arise from causes that are free from the four extremes should also be regarded as profound. Question: Why is it said to be free from the four extremes? These internal and external dependent arisings are not made by 'self', because it is contradictory for oneself to make oneself. It is not born from others, because dissimilar kinds cannot be causes and results, and similar kinds of causes and conditions are not reasonable. It is not born from both, because it would entail having both faults. It is not born from no cause, because it would entail either always arising or never arising. These are the ways in which the proponents of substantial existence prevent the arising of the four extremes, while the Madhyamikas believe that it is not born from others, because the result is not different from the cause. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Furthermore, if it were not so, it would fall into the fallacy of being independent.’ Thus it is explained. Therefore, no matter how the realists prevent other-origination, they cannot escape admitting other-origination. Ninth, the way of meditating from 'Conditioned by ignorance, actions arise' to 'Conditioned by birth, aging and death arise' is the way of meditating on the dependent origination of affliction in accordance with the order. Because it is the order of dependent origination that appears in the mind of the yogi, and the way of meditating in accordance with the order of dependent origination of affliction. The purpose of this is to realize that the ultimate result of karma and affliction is suffering. The way of meditating from 'What does aging and death arise from? It arises from birth' to 'What do actions arise from? They arise from ignorance' is the way of meditating on the dependent origination of affliction in reverse order. Because it is the order of dependent origination that appears in the mind of the yogi, and the way of meditating that is not in accordance with the order of birth of the dependent origination of affliction. The purpose of this is to realize that the ultimate root of suffering is ignorance. The way of meditating from 'When ignorance ceases, actions cease' to 'When birth ceases, aging and death cease' is the way of meditating on the dependent origination of purification in accordance with the order. Because it is the order of dependent origination that appears in the mind of the yogi, and the way of meditating in accordance with the way of arising of the dependent origination of purification. The purpose of this is to realize that the ultimate result of meditating on the path is the cessation of suffering. The way of meditating from 'When birth ceases, aging and death cease' to 'When ignorance ceases, actions cease' is the way of meditating on the dependent origination of purification in reverse order. Because it is the order of dependent origination that appears in the mind of the yogi, and the way of meditating that is not in accordance with the way of arising of the dependent origination of purification. The purpose of this is to realize that the ultimate root of liberation from samsara, nirvana, is wisdom (藏文:ཡེ་ཤེས།,梵文天城体:ज्ञान,梵文罗马拟音:jñāna,汉语字面意思:智慧) that directly contradicts ignorance and grasping. Some Abhidharma scholars refute that these two orders of dependent origination of purification are not the way to meditate on dependent origination of purification, because they are not dependent origination of purification, because they are not conditioned phenomena. They claim that, according to their own view, from the stainless wisdom that ceases ignorance, stainless actions, such as mental activity, arise, which is unreasonable, because if that were the case... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
