The condition of cause (རྒྱུའི་རྐྱེན།, hetu-pratyaya): Because it explains the immediate condition caused by force (དེ་མ་ཐག་རྐྱེན།, samanantara-pratyaya), the object condition caused by attention (དམིགས་རྐྱེན།, alambana-pratyaya), and the dominant condition that arises together (བདག་རྐྱེན།, adhipati-pratyaya), it is reasonable to say that ignorance is the cause condition of action. Because ignorance, in the mindstream imbued with habits, is what projects rebirth, and not something else. It is also reasonable to say that it is its immediate condition, because under the influence of ignorance, the later action arises from the earlier action. It is also reasonable to say that it is its object condition, because under the influence of ignorance, through inappropriate attention, it apprehends objects in a reversed manner. It is also reasonable to say that it is its dominant condition, because under the influence of ignorance, the mental factors that arise together with it manifestly act on objects. The meaning of 'as appropriate' is: consciousness (རིག་པ།, vijnana) acts as all four conditions for consciousness; when it acts as a condition for matter (བེམ་པོ།, rupa), it is only the dominant condition; when matter acts as a condition for matter, it is both the cause condition and the dominant condition; when matter acts as a condition for consciousness, it acts as both the object condition and the dominant condition. These are spoken of without distinguishing between real and imputed. If distinguished, then when ignorance acts as a condition for action, the first three are imputed, and only the last is characteristic. Furthermore, in the 'Substance of the Ground' (སའི་དངོས་གཞི།), it says that each of the twelve limbs (ཡན་ལག་བཅུ་གཉིས།, dvadasanga) cannot be the cause condition for the subsequent one, because the meaning of the cause condition is that each of their seeds (ས་བོན།, bija) are distinct. Therefore, saying that it is only the dominant condition refers to the real cause condition. According to this view, if it is a real cause condition, then it must be the respective seed on the Alaya consciousness (ཀུན་གཞིའི་རྣམ་ཤེས།, alaya-vijnana), but the twelve limbs are not seeds on it. In the 'Compendium' (བསྡུ་བ།), it says that the two conditions, object condition and dominant condition, refer to consciousness acting as a condition for matter, and matter acting as a condition for consciousness. In the 'Discrimination of the Middle and Extremes' (དབུས་མཐའ།, Madhyantavibhaga) and the 'Compendium of the Great Vehicle' (ཐེག་བསྡུས།, Mahayanasamgraha), saying that it is only the dominant condition refers to the real condition. Fifth, the first eleven limbs act on persons (གང་ཟག, pudgala) and phenomena (ཆོས།, dharma). Among these, ignorance performs two functions: it deludes sentient beings in existence (སྲིད་པ།, bhava), and it is the condition for action. Action also performs two functions: it distinguishes the places where beings go, and it is the condition for the habits of consciousness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

English
Consciousness (Sanskrit: vijñāna) operates in a dualistic manner because it holds the bonds of karma of sentient beings and is the condition for name and form (Sanskrit: nāmarūpa). Similarly, name and form cause sentient beings to take birth and are the condition for the six sense bases (Sanskrit: ṣaḍāyatana). The six sense bases cause sentient beings to fully acquire a body and are the condition for contact (Sanskrit: sparśa). Contact connects sentient beings with the enjoyment of objects and is the condition for feeling (Sanskrit: vedanā). Feeling connects sentient beings with the enjoyment of birth and is the condition for craving (Sanskrit: tṛṣṇā). Craving causes the birth of sentient beings to be realized and acquired and is the condition for grasping (Sanskrit: upādāna). Grasping causes the consciousness of sentient beings to be closely connected with acquisition and is the condition for existence (Sanskrit: bhava). Existence causes sentient beings to manifestly turn towards the next rebirth and is the condition for birth (Sanskrit: jāti). Birth causes sentient beings to gradually form from name and form to feeling and is the condition for aging and death (Sanskrit: jarā-maraṇa). Aging and death repeatedly cause age to change, thus acting on the individual; and as for one part of dependent origination included by samsara, there is no case of acting on the Dharma. If according to the part mentioned in the sutras, since craving is the condition, there is also the case of acting on the Dharma. The seventh point is that the term 'dependent origination' (Sanskrit: pratītyasamutpāda) reveals the meaning of no agent, because it shows that without agents such as Īśvara, it arises merely from immutable conditions. Then, will it become without a cause? It is not so, it also shows that there is a cause, because it shows that from ignorance (Sanskrit: avidyā) to formations (Sanskrit: saṃskāra), the later branch arises from the previous one. It also shows no-self (Sanskrit: anātman), because it shows that there is no individual separate from the aggregates (Sanskrit: skandha). It also merely shows other-dependence, because it shows that it arises from the power of other causes and conditions. It also shows immutability, because it shows that from the assembly of causes and conditions, the result arises, and there is no prior thought of 'I will create it'. It also shows impermanence (Sanskrit: anitya), because it shows that it does not remain permanent. It also shows momentariness, because it shows that from the time of arising, it does not last until the next moment. Then, will it lead to the interruption of cause and effect? It is not so, because when the moment of the cause disappears, the result exists, so the cause and effect are not interrupted. Then, will it lead to the uncertainty of cause and effect? It is not so, because giving produces wealth, stinginess produces poverty, etc., are the reasons for the consistency of cause and effect. Then, will it lead to the equality of the number of causes and effects? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
