Regarding the explanation, 'Whatever afflictions belong to the field of arising, they necessarily belong to that field.' This statement is unreasonable. This is the detailed explanation. To refute this, there are three ways: self-contradiction, unreasonable proof, and refutation through separate establishment. The first is self-contradiction: The statement that 'actions belonging to the field of arising, as proof, because actions of other fields cannot accomplish the fruition of other fields' is similar to craving (Sanskrit: Trsna). Craving should also belong to the field of arising and aging and death, because actions of other fields cannot accomplish the fruition of other fields. The statement that 'grasping belongs to the field of arising and aging and death, as proof, because grasping is the craving that desires to obtain the aggregates of the next life' is also similar to craving, because craving is also the craving that desires to obtain the aggregates of the next life. If it is argued that this is not established, because craving is attachment to the self arising in the afflicted mind (Sanskrit: Klista-manas), therefore it is only craving for the Alaya-consciousness (Sanskrit: Ālayavijñāna), then this contradicts the assertion that feeling is craving, because feeling is not the Alaya-consciousness. Secondly, the statement that 'feeling and craving belong to the same field, as proof, because feeling of other fields does not increase craving of other fields' is unanalyzed. Because not all craving is necessarily accompanied by pleasant feeling, because there are three ways of craving corresponding to the three feelings. Therefore, feeling of other fields can increase craving of other fields. For example, the feeling of desire for suffering, wanting to be separated from it, increases the craving included in the first dhyana field, because when observing the coarseness and subtlety of desire and the first dhyana, that craving is included in the first dhyana field. Think well! Thirdly, is such a same field established as one part of the cause and effect relationship included in samsara, or two parts? If it is considered the first case, then it contradicts the assertion that there is the same field between name and form up to feeling, and between birth and aging and death. If it is considered the latter case, then it contradicts the assertion that action belongs to the field of arising, while craving does not belong to the field of accomplishing fruition, because just as ignorance and action are regarded as causes in the previous cause and effect relationship, craving, grasping, and existence, the three, must also be regarded as causes in the later cause and effect relationship. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are two analyses regarding dependent origination: one is the equal analysis of cause and effect within the nine grounds of samsara; the other is the equal analysis of the twelve links mentioned in the sutras within the nine grounds. Firstly, if we summarize the ways beings are born from the nine grounds of the three realms, we can categorize them into three types: being born from one's own ground to one's own ground, being born from a lower ground to a higher ground, and being born from a higher ground to a lower ground. If we divide them in detail, there are eighty-one situations, that is, from the nine grounds of the three realms, there are nine situations of being born in the desire realm, and so on, up to nine situations of being born in the peak of existence. In these eighty-one situations, the latter eleven of the twelve links, such as action, belong only to the place of birth, that is, they only belong to the place of birth. The six or seven links of ripening fruit should be established on the contaminated aggregates of what has been born. Because the karma that propels from other grounds does not propel the ripening fruit of other grounds, and the karma that accomplishes from other grounds does not accomplish the ripening fruit of other grounds. Ignorance belongs to the place of birth, and there are also nine situations, that is, being born in the desire realm from the nine grounds of the three realms. The reason for this is that the ignorance included in the upper realms does not incite the karma that propels the desire realm, because without obtaining the actual mind of the upper realms, the ignorance of the upper realms will not manifest; and after obtaining the actual mind of the upper realms, if it does not degenerate, there will be no situation of inciting the karma that propels the desire realm, because they see the desire realm as inferior. Furthermore, in the nine situations of being born in the first dhyana from the nine grounds of the three realms, the ignorance is only the ignorance included in the desire realm. Because the ignorance included in the realms above the first dhyana does not incite the karma that propels the first dhyana. Because to create the karma that propels birth in the first dhyana, one must first generate the approximate concentration with aspects of quiescence and agitation, and generate detachment from the lower realm, and the ignorance of the intention to generate this approximate concentration must also arise before the approximate concentration. Furthermore, in the nine situations of being born in the second dhyana from the nine grounds of the three realms, the ignorance is only the ignorance included in the first dhyana. Because the ignorance included in the desire realm does not incite the karma of the second dhyana, and the ignorance above the second dhyana also does not incite the karma that propels the second dhyana. The former reason is established, because the karma that propels birth in the second dhyana requires obtaining the actual mind of the first dhyana. After obtaining the actual mind of the first dhyana, one will abandon the ignorance that is abandoned by cultivation in the desire realm, and will be disgusted with the desire realm. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
