Since the ignorance that belongs to what is abandoned by seeing is unwholesome, it does not incite unwavering karma. It follows that the motivating ignorance of all nine life forms from the third dhyana up to the peak of existence should be understood as immediately below their respective realms. In summary, ignorance has four possibilities: belonging to both birth and death, such as being born from the desire realm to the desire realm; belonging to birth but not to death, such as being born from the upper eight realms to the desire realm; belonging to death but not to birth, such as being born from the desire realm to the first dhyana, up to being born from nothingness to the peak of existence, these eight possibilities; not belonging to both birth and death, which are the remaining of the seventeen possibilities. These are all based on the assumption that the ignorance of the mind-basis (manas) is the motivator. If the ignorance that arises as an attendant of afflicted mind (klesha-manas) is the motivator, then the ignorance belongs to the realm where the support of karma, etc., is. Since the afflicted mind focuses on the alaya-consciousness and grasps it as self, it is impossible for the afflicted mind of one being to grasp the alaya-consciousness of another realm as self. The detailed refutation and establishment of these points have already been explained in 'The Clarifier of the Supreme Person,' so please refer to it. Secondly, when the twelve links mentioned in the sutras are complete in the case of being born from the desire realm to the desire realm, it is easy to understand that all realms are the same. When the twelve links mentioned in the sutras are complete in the case of being born from the desire realm to the first dhyana, and then from the first dhyana to the second dhyana, the explicitly stated ignorance is included in the desire realm, and formations (samskara), consciousness (vijnana), up to feeling (vedana) are included in the first dhyana. Here, the three implicit accomplishing factors and the two accomplished results are also included in the first dhyana. The three explicitly stated craving (trsna), grasping (upadana), and existence (bhava) are included in the second dhyana, because they are the accomplishing factors of the ripening result of the second dhyana. The two explicitly stated accomplished results are also included in the second dhyana, because they are the aggregates of its ripening result. Among the seven implicit links here, ignorance is included in the first dhyana, and the six links from formations to feeling are included in the second dhyana, which should be understood based on the previous proof. This is also based on the assumption that the ignorance that arises as an attendant of the mind-consciousness is the motivator, and not the ignorance that arises as an attendant of the afflicted mind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If ignorance is the motivation, then know that future ignorance is the karma that draws one to the second dhyana (meditative absorption), and it belongs to the basis where that karma is accumulated. Similarly, from the second dhyana to the first dhyana, and then to being born in the desire realm, the directly shown ignorance is included in the desire realm, and the directly shown action to feeling is included in the first dhyana. Here, there are five implications, all five of which are included in the first dhyana. The three directly shown accomplishing factors and the two accomplished results are included in the desire realm, and the seven implications here should be known to be included in the desire realm. Secondly, the pure dependent origination. Generally, from the earlier path of liberation arises the later path of liberation, relying on the truth of the path, the truth of cessation arises, and from meditating on the four applications arise the Dharmakaya (body of truth), etc. All the pure results arising from pure causes should be understood as pure dependent origination. Both cause and effect are pure dharmas, and in all causes and effects, the cause itself does not become the nature of the effect, nor does it arise without relying on the cause. However, the arising of the effect must necessarily rely on the cause, so although it cannot be analyzed by reason, in conventional truth, from the perspective of each cause and effect being definite, the meaning of dependent origination is complete. Here, the way of establishing the order of cessation of afflicted dependent origination as pure dependent origination is also explained. It is divided into the order of cessation of dependent origination that ordinary beings and Shravaka (hearer) and Pratyekabuddha (solitary realizer) trainees have, and the order of cessation of dependent origination that Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha Arhats (worthy ones) and Bodhisattva Aryas (noble ones) have. The first is: As stated in the Root Verses on the Middle Way: 'When ignorance ceases, actions do not arise. When ignorance ceases, it is through wisdom.' Therefore, when ignorance ceases, actions do not arise. After recognizing the cause of the cessation of ignorance, 'When this ceases, that ceases; when this is absent, that is absent. Only this great mass of suffering, thus, is completely extinguished.' Thus, it is explained that when actions cease, the subsequent limbs gradually cease. According to this system, the cause of the cessation of ignorance is meditating on the meaning of suchness, which is meditating on the view of realizing the selflessness of persons. To realize the selflessness of persons, one must view the aggregates of appropriation as unreal. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
