The twelve links of dependent origination are established in sequential order, starting with the form aggregate (gzugs phung, material aggregate) as the first. As the verse states: 'The order is coarse and all-afflicting.' The six sense sources (skye mched drug) fully manifest from the development of name and form (ming gzugs). Contact (reg pa) is the mental factor that arises when the six sense sources encounter their objects, and the object, sense faculty, and consciousness converge, discerning the changes in the object. It is classified into six types, from eye contact (mig gi 'dus te reg pa) to mind contact (yid kyi 'dus te reg pa). Feeling (tshor ba) is the mental factor that experiences pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral sensations as discerned by contact. It is classified into six types, arising from the conditions of eye contact, etc., to feeling arising from mind contact. If it is argued that contact and feeling should not be considered limbs of dependent origination because they are pervasive mental factors and can also exist in a non-defiled state, there is no problem with this view. This is because, in the context of revealing the sequence of dependent origination, contact and feeling are understood to be defiled. This is because if the six sense sources cease, there would be no cessation of undefiled contact; if undefiled feeling ceases, there would be no cessation of craving. Craving (sred pa) is the mental factor of attachment to the essence of feeling. Based on the distinctions of the three types of feeling, it can be divided into craving for acquisition ('thob par), craving for separation ('bral bar), and craving for neither (gnyis min du). Grasping (len pa) is the mental factor of attachment to the cause of feeling, namely the body and enjoyment. It is classified into four types: desire grasping ('dod pa nye bar len pa), existence grasping (srid pa nye bar len pa), view grasping (lta ba nye bar len pa), ethical conduct and discipline grasping (tshul khrims dang brtul zhugs nye bar len pa), and self-view grasping (bdag tu lta ba nye bar len pa). Some believe that the general desire for rebirth is craving, while the desire for specific rebirth is grasping. In the commentary on the *Entering the Middle Way* ('jug 'grel), it says: 'First, the desire for rebirth is craving, and its increase is grasping.' Existence (srid pa), if according to the two-part division of cause and effect, refers to the mental activity such as new karma that propels rebirth; if according to the one-part division, it refers to the karmic imprints that have been nourished by craving and grasping, becoming powerful. Birth (skye ba) is the process of the gradual formation of the five aggregates at the time of linking to a new existence, driven by the force of existence. Aging (rga ba) is the change in age. Death ('chi ba) refers to the state of the gradual cessation of the life force within a single lifetime. Aging and death are combined into one limb because there are cases of dying before aging. Then, name and form and the six sense sources should also be combined into one limb, because there are cases of spontaneous birth. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If sentient beings possess the six sense bases at the same time as the formation of name and form, there is no problem, because this is referring to those born from a womb, as stated in the *Shridevi Sutra*. According to this commentary, merely the change of age is not considered aging, but rather the state of decline of the senses is considered aging. Otherwise, there would be no cases of dying before aging. In the *Fifty Verses on the Guru*, it is said that merely change is considered aging. It says there: 'What is completely in accordance with desire?' Answer: 'Everything gradually gathers.' 'What is completely in accordance with form?' Answer: 'One aspect of everything.' 'How is aging present there?' Answer: 'The old and decaying of conditioned phenomena.' 'How is it completely in accordance with form, it is the same with being completely in accordance with formlessness.' Next is the manner in which the previous limb gives rise to the subsequent limb: Two, ignorance conditions formations: Due to the power of ignorance, new actions that project rebirth are produced. Formations condition consciousness: If consciousness is taken as the aspect of the cause, from the previous formations arises the subsequent consciousness with habitual imprints. If consciousness is taken as the aspect of the result, from the previous formations arises the consciousness that projects into the next life. Consciousness conditions name and form: If consciousness is taken as the aspect of the cause, from the consciousness with habitual imprints, the habitual imprints of name and form gradually increase. If consciousness is taken as the aspect of the result, in the second moment of the initial formation in the next life, name and form gradually form. Name and form condition the six sense bases: From the gradual increase of name and form, the six sense bases fully manifest. The six sense bases condition contact: When the six sense bases meet with objects, the three of sense faculty, object, and consciousness gather, thereby fully determining the changes of the object. Contact conditions feeling: How contact determines, so feeling experiences. Feeling conditions craving: Due to the power of feeling, attachment arises to accepting or rejecting pleasant and unpleasant feelings. Craving conditions grasping: Due to attachment to the nature of feeling, there is desire and attachment to seeking the cause of feeling. Grasping conditions becoming: Due to the power of grasping, the actions that project rebirth become powerful. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
