for the sake of. If it arises from a body with senses, it is too extreme. The second part has three points: If refuted, it becomes the cause and effect itself. Refuting what contradicts the scriptures. If proven by reasoning, it contradicts the commitment. If refuted, it becomes the cause and effect itself. The first is: If you consider the body to be the actual support of mind, then you must consider the body with senses to be the actual support of mind. If so, then mind, by its nature, is not the knowledge that actually relies on the eyes and other senses, because if each of the eyes and other senses is harmed by an obstacle, then it does not actually harm you. Those eyes and other senses, by their nature, rely on your mind, because if this mind changes due to sorrow and so on, then you see those changes. Because the senses rely on the mind. The embodied one, by its nature, your subsequent mind arises from the previous mind, because some actions that rely on the previous mind, which is the support where your subsequent mind dwells, are the cause of the subsequent senses. Therefore, if such an action that relies on the previous mind has the effect of initiating the subsequent senses, then later, at the time of death, by its nature, the arising of senses from the mind will occur here, because its collection of causes is complete and without obstacles. In the 'Treasury of Reasoning,' it says: 'A complete collection of causes without obstacles, by its sign, achieves an endless future.' This is its meaning. Refuting what contradicts the scriptures. The second is: If someone says, then the body and mind are mutually compliant, which contradicts the scriptures. Such scriptures, by their nature, do not say that the mind actually relies on the body, but rather that the body benefits the body's knowledge, and the body's knowledge benefits the mind, therefore the mind is said to rely on the body indirectly. If proven by reasoning, it contradicts the commitment. The third is: If the senses are the actual support of the mind, because without the senses, the mind does not arise. Then, this mind, by its nature, should also be the actual support of the senses, because without you, the senses do not arise. If you accept this, then both the mind and the senses, by their nature, after death, should be mutual causes and effects, because at the time of death, they are mutual causes. If it arises from a permanent body, it is too extreme. The third part has two points: Quoting the reasoning that is too extreme. Refuting errors by contradicting the commitment. Reasoning that is too extreme --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Refuting the Arguments of the Lokayata (Materialist) School Firstly, if the Lokayata school asserts that consciousness arises from the permanent body, then the body (as the subject of debate) should not give rise to a continuous stream of consciousness, because you (the body) are a permanent entity that is not sequential. Refuting Evasion by Admitting Faults Secondly, if they say that the pervasion does not hold because the permanent body relies on conditions to generate a continuous stream of consciousness, then the body (as the subject of debate) should also not rely on conditions, because conditions cannot make it distinct. If they say that by relying on continuous consciousness, the permanent body can also gradually generate consciousness, so there is no fault, then the body (as the subject of debate) should make its sequence clear, that is, have a sequential order, because it relies on continuous consciousness and is the cause of generating continuous consciousness. If they concede, then the embodied being (as the subject of debate), the preceding moment of your body and mind should be the cause of the subsequent moment, because your body and mind are a continuous stream with a sequential order. If they concede, then the embodied being (as the subject of debate), the preceding moment of body and mind being the cause of the subsequent moment, in all cases, you should also see this at the moment of your death, because the preceding moment of your body and mind is the cause of the subsequent moment. If they concede, then the subsequent rebirth is established. Detailed Explanation of Uncontradictory Connection Secondly, the detailed explanation of uncontradictory connection is divided into three points: the reason for the dying mind is uncertain, its positive example lacks the property, and refuting the proof of non-emptiness. The Reason for the Dying Mind is Uncertain Firstly, the Lokayata says: the mind of an ordinary person at the moment of death (as the subject of debate) does not connect with the subsequent consciousness, because it is the dying mind, like the dying mind of an Arhat. Then, the dying mind (as the subject of debate), the reason you (Lokayata) use to prove that the dying mind of an ordinary person does not connect with the subsequent consciousness is incorrect, because your mind connects with other minds, which contradicts valid cognition. What is there to say? Its Positive Example Lacks the Property Secondly, the dying mind of an Arhat (as the subject of debate), the positive example you (Lokayata) use to prove that the dying mind of an ordinary person does not connect with the subsequent consciousness is incorrect, because you believe that it does not connect with any valid cognition, because there is no established valid cognition. Refuting the Proof of Non-Emptiness Thirdly, it is divided into two points: refuting the view established by Buddhist scriptures, and refuting the Lokayata's own arguments. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
