It is so, not because it does not exist that it is not desired, but because everything is an act of wisdom, not preventing all knowledge. We cannot know, so we hope to understand thoroughly. Fourth, establishing the proof that he is a valid person: Whether the teacher can see distant things or not, as long as he can truly see the Four Noble Truths of suffering, origin, cessation, and path, he is a valid person. If merely not knowing the meaning of what is sought, yet being able to see distant things is a valid person, then those wise people who know the meaning of what is sought but cannot see distant things should be abandoned. One should rely on vultures and dakinis as teachers, because relying on them is reasonable. The second part has five points: proving great compassion with reason, the way the teacher arises from great compassion, the way the Sugata arises from it, the way the protector arises from it, therefore, the proof is established. The first part has three points: the nature of the proof, the cause of the proof, and refuting the arguments against it. First, if it is said 'because there is no proof', this is unreasonable. Because, valid person, you have a proof, because your great compassion, not relying on repaying kindness etc., equally treats all sentient beings, hoping they will be free from suffering, this is your proof. Second, great compassion, you have a cause, because you arise from the habituation of the object and aspect of compassion in many lifetimes. The third part has two points: refuting the view that habituation is impossible and changes, refuting the view that even if it is possible, it is not beyond nature. The first part has two points: presenting the argument, explaining the refutation. First, the nihilist says: Compassion, it is impossible to be accomplished through habituation in many lifetimes, because there is no past or future life. Because the conceptual consciousness relies on the body, so when the body is destroyed, the continuum of consciousness is cut off. The way of dependence is also like the power of alcohol to intoxicate, is consciousness the nature of the body? Or like the light of a lamp, is it the fruit of the body? Or like the sweetness of brown sugar, is it the quality of the body? The second part has two points: brief explanation, detailed explanation. First, brief explanation: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Compassionate one, it is unreasonable to assume that mind and intellect arise dependent on the body and are not formed through habituation. This is because the dependence of mind and intellect on the body is refuted by reason. How so? Because when ordinary beings take rebirth, breath, senses, and mind do not arise solely from the body without relying on their previous similar kind. If they did, then stones and the like would also produce mind, which would lead to a very absurd conclusion. Moreover, if it is seen that the previous and subsequent consciousnesses of this life are capable of connecting, what additional reason is there? If there is no reason, then why would one assume that the dying consciousness of an ordinary being in the next life cannot connect with the birth consciousness of this life, since the reason is the same? The ancients made the first verse a summary and then elaborated, such as, 'If there is no previous life, it would lead to a very absurd conclusion. It can be proven by reason that there is a future life,' etc. They did not distinguish that proving the future life is the main point when habituating the object of compassion, and proving the previous life is the main point when proving that the basis of suffering is the aggregates of appropriation in cyclic existence. They also did not understand the structure of the text, where it elaborates on 'If there is heat and moisture, it would lead to a very absurd conclusion,' and where it elaborates on how 'the final consciousness' connects. Detailed Explanation: There are two parts: elaborating on the reasoning that leads to absurdity; elaborating on how connection is without contradiction. Elaborating on the Reasoning That Leads to Absurdity: There are three parts: if it arises from the elemental body, it would lead to a very absurd conclusion; if it arises from the body with senses, it would lead to a very absurd conclusion; if it arises from the permanent body, it would lead to a very absurd conclusion. If It Arises from the Elemental Body, It Would Lead to a Very Absurd Conclusion: The first point is: there is nothing wrong with saying that if mind arises from stones and the like, it would lead to a very absurd conclusion. Because some elements are the seeds of mind and the like, and some are not. If one thinks this way, then all elements should have the nature of seeds of mind and the like. Because if other conditions are complete, there is no place where heat and moisture, etc., which can produce beings, are lacking. Therefore, all earth and the like will become the seeds of mind and the like. Therefore, if the senses and the like do not need to rely on their previous similar kind but arise from the elements, then why can one element completely transform into the senses and the like, but all elements cannot transform? Because there is no reason to distinguish.
