If all the power of karma is mixed together and exhausted by one suffering or one asceticism, what happens? Ascetic, because you abandon all karma, like picking a hair of suffering from afflictions, or you will completely abandon, without relying on the suffering of afflictions. Because you mix all the power of karma together and exhaust it through one suffering or one asceticism. Because you want afflictions, that is, something other than suffering. If this is not established, if it is itself affliction, that is, suffering, then, ascetic, this will not make the power of karma mix together and exhaust them, etc. Because it is the result of bad karma. Third, refuting the contradiction with wanting to exhaust karma: If you also want to exhaust karma and its results by seeing selflessness, then why is there no antidote to exhausting karma? The path of seeing selflessness is a means of preventing craving, because it destroys the seeds of future craving, that is, the fault of wanting to generate future craving from previous craving. Therefore, the path of seeing selflessness is able to destroy the karma generated by future craving, but how can it make the results of previously created karma disappear? It will not disappear, because the karma created by craving will definitely produce results. Fourth, refuting that the cause and effect of karma and afflictions are the same: Just as afflictions generate karma, and if afflictions exist, there will be no liberation, karma also generates afflictions, and if karma exists, there will be no liberation, is it the same? The karma that has abandoned afflictions will not produce the fault of afflictions from you, because you have no afflictions. This is pervasive, if there is the fault of afflictions, karma will be created, conversely, without afflictions, karma and afflictions will not arise. If this is not established, good and bad karma produce happiness and suffering, from happiness and suffering arise desire and hatred, then, the person who has abandoned the view of self will not generate desire and hatred etc. from happiness and suffering, because there is no inverted discrimination, clinging to I and mine. Second, the way to establish the Sugata from that: The protector who truly proclaims the Four Noble Truths, you are put forward as a reason, from you and the teacher who possesses you, the teacher is established. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, the wisdom possessing three qualities—knowing the nature of reality as it is, being stable and irreversible after knowing, and knowing the distinctions of all knowable objects without exception—is established as possessing wisdom with three qualities. Because you are the result of that wisdom with three qualities, if someone asks, 'Doesn't this contradict what was previously said about the Sugata having abandoned?' Well-Gone), because you possess three qualities of realization, can be explained as 'Well-Gone,' because you engage in the three special qualities of realization through different conditions. Therefore, the Thuba (Shakyamuni Buddha) is established as superior to outsiders who are free from attachment, learners such as Stream-Enterers, and non-learners such as Arhats, because he possesses the three qualities of knowing reality as it is, being stable, and knowing everything without exception. From this, the establishment of the Teacher: Third, from this, the establishment of the Teacher: The Thuba (Shakyamuni Buddha), because he applies and becomes accustomed to the means of knowing the benefit of others, is established as having the name 'Teacher' in the time of fruition, because he possesses the three special qualities of wisdom. From this, the establishment of love: Fourth, from this, the establishment of love: The Thuba (Shakyamuni Buddha) is established as possessing love for others, because he becomes accustomed to the vast means for the benefit of others, and because even though he has achieved the perfection of abandoning self-interest and realizing enlightenment, he does not abandon the activity of teaching the Dharma for the sake of others. Therefore, it is established that he made effort: Fifth, therefore, it is established that he made effort: The Bhagavan (Shakyamuni Buddha) is established as a valid person in seeking liberation through effort in the means of valid cognition, because he possesses great love and speaks the truth from goodness and great wisdom, and he also possesses diligence in speaking in that way. Explaining the necessity of praise by valid cognition: Third, explaining the necessity of praise by valid cognition, there are two parts: Showing the necessity of establishing valid cognition; and the way of establishing inference as valid cognition. Showing the necessity of establishing valid cognition: First, if someone asks, 'What is the necessity of praising the Bhagavan (Shakyamuni Buddha) with valid cognition, since he possesses immeasurable qualities?' Praising the teacher with such qualities that have become valid cognition is necessary, because the system of valid cognition itself is established from the teachings of the Bhagavan (Shakyamuni Buddha), not from Dignāga. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
