If someone contemplates 'mine' as suffering, then that person is the subject. The idea of contemplating 'mine' as suffering becomes meaningless, because even if he is detached from attachment to 'mine', he will not abandon 'mine'. The effort to contemplate suffering will become meaningless. The fourth part is divided into two points: establishing the inference, and refuting the error. Establishing the inference: First, the subject is the seeker of liberation. The idea of contemplating 'mine' as suffering in order to detach from attachment to 'mine' is meaningless. Because contemplating 'mine' as suffering only makes us clearly aware that they are suffering themselves. This alone does not make us detached from attachment to 'mine'. Because some 'mine' are suffering themselves, which is obvious, but we still cannot detach from attachment to them. Refuting the error: Second, if you see suffering, you will detach from attachment. Because seeing the faults in certain things leads to detachment from them. If a person with self-grasping sees the faults in 'mine', then at the moment of seeing the faults, his attachment to 'mine' may weaken, but he will never completely detach from attachment to 'mine', because he still has attachment to other things. This is universally applicable, because if there is a distinction between what should be taken and what should be abandoned, then the attachment arising from what should be taken, under the influence of conditions, will become the seed of attachment to all things that should be abandoned. For example, a lustful person, seeing the faults in one woman, may temporarily eliminate his attachment to her, but he will still be attached to other women, and this attachment will become the root of his attachment to the previous woman. If 'I' has no faults, then there will be no object of attachment and detachment. The fifth part is divided into two points: establishing the inference, and refuting the error. Establishing the inference: First, the subject is the person. The Dharma of Samsara, whether attached to or detached from faulty things, will not change, because 'I' has no faults, and the attachment to 'I' as an object has no faults, and the 'mine' as an argument has no faults, therefore they are not objects of attachment and detachment. This is universally applicable, because beings, that is, the Dharma of Samsara, are only these three. The previous reason is accepted, because if 'I' has no faults, then the other two naturally have no faults. Refuting the error: Second, the reason that attachment to 'I' as an object has no faults is not established, because I am attached to 'I'. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If 'having' is the basis of suffering and therefore also flawed, then? The word 'also' includes that from the perspective of 'I', 'having' is flawless. So, as 'I', you are flawed, because the basis of suffering also applies to you. If this is admitted, then for someone seeking liberation, just because 'I' is flawed, to think that their attachment to 'having' will disappear is impossible, because they have not eliminated attachment to the flaws of 'I'. If recognizing flaws cannot eliminate attachment: Sixth, if attachment to 'having' arises from seeing the merits of 'having', then seeing the faults of 'having' should eliminate attachment. However, attachment to senses etc. as 'having' is not solely caused by seeing the merits of 'having', because this attachment is also seen in children and animals who do not distinguish between merits and faults, and even when one's own senses are flawed, this attachment still exists. Although possessing merits, there is no attachment to the senses etc. possessed by others, and for 'having' such as hair that has separated from the body, even if merits are seen, there is no attachment. If the cause of attachment to 'having' is the cognition of 'having', and this cognition arises from seeing merits, therefore attachment is eliminated by meditating on suffering, then the cause of the arising of the cognition of 'having' to 'having' is also not solely the seeing of the merits of 'having', because this cognition is also seen in children etc. Therefore, for a person, even if they see faults rather than merits in the senses etc., they cannot eliminate the cognition of 'having' to the senses etc., because the cognition of 'having' does not arise from seeing merits. If the cause is not harmed, attachment cannot be eliminated: Seventh, furthermore, how does the practice of meditating on 'having' as suffering harm attachment to 'having'? It is impossible, because its cause—attachment to 'I'—is not harmed. This is universal, because attachment to 'I' attributes merits that 'having' does not possess, therefore attachment to 'having' is also seen. If recognizing that the senses and 'I' are different cannot eliminate attachment: Second, recognizing that the senses and 'I' are different cannot eliminate attachment. The Samkhya school says: Attachment does not arise from seeing merits, but when prakṛti (藏文:རང་བཞིན།,梵文天城体:प्रकृति,梵文罗马拟音:prakṛti,汉语字面意思:self-nature) is the object of attachment, and puruṣa (藏文:སྐྱེས་བུ།,梵文天城体:पुरुष,梵文罗马拟音:puruṣa,汉语字面意思:man) is considered to be one, then attachment to that object arises. If they are recognized as different, attachment will disappear. Then, ordinary beings... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
