Even if it is wrong, the external will transform into the opposite state, in order to fully explain that the external is the cause of following and transforming. So, is the touch that is the objective condition of eye consciousness the cause of that eye consciousness? Because other external things are the cause of following and transforming. Answer: The touch that is the objective condition of eye consciousness, for seeing, that is, eye consciousness, is the cause, the transmitting cause, because it is the cause of the form that is the objective condition of eye consciousness. Showing that craving is the main cause Second, since suffering has been established as having a cause, and does not arise from causes of different kinds, suffering will not arise from Ishvara and the permanent chief, etc., because in general, permanent things have been denied as causes, because permanent things do not have the ability to produce results. Showing that craving is the main cause The third part is divided into three points: showing that craving is the main cause; citing scriptures as proof; only talking about the cause of craving. Showing that craving is the main cause First, because suffering is not without a cause, nor is it produced by a permanent cause, therefore, the craving for body, enjoyment, and desire, which is called the origin of afflictions and is contained in existence, is the cause of suffering. Because, starting from humans, all things that beings slightly grasp are caused by the thought of wanting to obtain that thing, that is, craving. If craving for existence is the cause of suffering, then in short, what is the noble truth of the origin of suffering? It is this craving, which leads to rebirth, accompanied by joy and desire, and is very fond of this and that, such as the craving for desire, the craving for existence, and the craving for destruction. This contradicts the statement that all three cravings are the cause. Answer: It is not contradictory, because what is said is the craving for existence. Because beings want to obtain happiness and want to get rid of suffering, they engage in acceptance and rejection, and these cravings are called the craving for desire and the craving for destruction respectively, which is the difference between the general and the specific. This is the view of the gods. Shakyamuni pursues the craving for desire in the desire realm, and pursues the existence --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although the desire for existence and the aversion to suffering are called 'fearsome craving' (Tibetan: འཇིག༷ས་སྲེད་), this is confused with the view of the Abhidharma, and is not explained as such in this treatise. Therefore, ordinary people, these three cravings are the basis for birth in samsara, because craving that clings to self as the cause, perceives non-blissful contaminated bliss as bliss, and because of craving for bliss, is extremely attached to and acquires all good and bad realms. To prove this, the following scriptures are quoted. Divided into two parts: the main text and refuting arguments. Main Text: The first part is: Because no one is seen to be born without craving, the teachers say that craving is the cause of birth. As Vasubandhu said: 'Because no one is seen to be born who is free from desire, therefore, birth is caused by desire.' Refuting Arguments: The Lokayata says: 'Then the body will also produce desire, because without a body there is no desire.' If so, then the previous body should be considered the cause of the subsequent desire, because you admit that it is the cause of the subsequent desire, that is, the co-emergent condition. If so, then it contradicts the previous prohibition of the body being the cause.' The previous body, you have not prohibited it from being the cause of the subsequent desire, but only excluded it from being the proximate cause of the subsequent desire. If following the reasoning 'Because no one is seen to be born without craving, therefore craving is the cause of birth,' it is thought that without a body there is no desire, so the body is also the cause of desire, then Lokayata, you are saying something contradictory, because you previously admitted that there is no past or future life, and later said that the body and desire are the cause of the previous desire and the subsequent body. If desire is not the cause of the body, because the body and birth arise simultaneously, because you see the body being born, but you have not seen desire before this. Then the body is also not the cause of desire, because the body and desire arise simultaneously. If admitted, then desire is not without cause, nor does it arise from the body, but from a cause of the same kind. Thus, the first desire in this life should have already established its cause of the same kind, because it arises from a cause of the same kind.
