The object of observation (Tibetan: par rtog pa) is the subject, what is the reason for being dependent on the object of apprehension (Tibetan: gzung don gyi gzhan dbang can), is it not so? Because it arises merely from intention. Therefore, it is established as a homogeneous cause. Thirdly, therefore, being established as a homogeneous cause is: from some previous attachments and so on (Tibetan: chags sogs snga ma 'ga' zhig las), some later attachments and so on arise (Tibetan: chags sogs phyi ma 'ga' zhig skye ba yin te), at what time, for what reason? Because without depending on the body, some previous consciousnesses (Tibetan: shes pa snga ma 'ga' zhig) become the cause for the awakening of the habitual imprints of some later consciousnesses. If it is the second view, then for a single sentient being (Tibetan: lus can gcig la chos can), it follows that many streams of mental and cognitive substance arise simultaneously (Tibetan: dus cig char du yid blo rdzas rgyun mang po 'byung bar thal), because each part of the body is capable of generating its own mental and cognitive consciousness. Refuting the defense against that fault. It is divided into two: one breath is not suitable as the cause of mental and cognitive consciousness; multiple breaths are not suitable as the cause of mental and cognitive consciousness. One breath is not suitable as the cause of mental and cognitive consciousness. The first view is: even if there are multiple bodies, multiple mental and cognitive consciousnesses will not arise simultaneously, because there is only one breath (Tibetan: dbugs 'byung rngub gcig kho na), so it is certain that one consciousness arises from that one breath, if you think so. Then, breaths (Tibetan: dbugs 'byung rngub dag) are the subject, because you are one, you cannot determine one mental and cognitive consciousness, because you are the same as the body, which is multiple particles. If this is not established, that is, breath and body are permanent and one, so consciousness arises sequentially, if you think so, then for a single sentient being, many substances of mental and cognitive consciousness appear and arise simultaneously, because the cause of many substances of mental and cognitive consciousness, that is, the permanent breath and body with unimpeded ability, are always close. If the breath and the permanent body are not the cause of generating multiple consciousness substances simultaneously, but generate them sequentially, if you think so, then the breath and the permanent body are the subject, it is not that they do not generate multiple consciousnesses sequentially, because there is no difference between you and that which did not generate multiple consciousnesses before. Furthermore, even if we allow that there is only one breath, but the sentient being is the subject, it is not certain that there is only one mental and cognitive consciousness because of that one breath, because even with one outward breath, consciousness arises that apprehends multiple earlier and later objects. If this is not pervasive, because a single indivisible consciousness knows multiple earlier and later objects, if you think so, then that consciousness is the subject, those multiple earlier and later objects will be apprehended simultaneously at the very time of apprehending the earlier object, because there is no contradiction in apprehending multiple earlier and later objects simultaneously at the very time of apprehending the earlier object. If it is not established, then that consciousness is the subject, even if it apprehends objects sequentially --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, if one does not cling to multiple sequences, it will not change. Because later there is no difference from not clinging to multiple meanings. Multiple should not be considered as the source of consciousness The second part is divided into two parts: refuting the production by multiple sequences, and refuting the production by multiple simultaneous occurrences. Refuting the production by multiple sequences The first part: multiple different breaths, arising from the permanent body, are many moments of breath with sequential order. If it is thought that these breaths themselves are the cause of sequential concepts, then these breaths, as the subject of debate, how can they arise in sequential order? They will not arise. Because there is no cause for arising with the previous order. If it is said that it is not established, because the previous of its own kind is the cause, then the embodied being, as the subject of debate, the first breath of this life will not arise, because before the breath of this life there is no such previous cause of the same kind. If it is said that it is not established, then there will be a previous life. Even if there is a previous breath of the same kind, the breath, as the subject of debate, must necessarily be multiple, because it arises from different places of origin. If it is admitted, then for one person, multiple entities of consciousness will arise simultaneously, because there are multiple breaths existing simultaneously. Refuting the production by multiple simultaneous occurrences The second part: if it is said that even if there are multiple breaths, they do not each produce consciousness, but multiple breaths simultaneously, that is, concepts at the same time, are the cause of one conceptual consciousness, so multiple consciousnesses will not arise simultaneously. Then conceptual consciousness, as the subject of debate, in cases of weak breathing, etc., even if one part of the breath is missing, you will not arise, because the complete collection of all breaths is the direct cause of your arising. If the various parts of the breath are the cause of consciousness, then consciousness, as the subject of debate, will have differences of increase and decrease due to the increase and decrease of breath, because the strength of the breath is your proximate cause. This is pervasive, because if the result does not produce differences of increase and decrease from the different increase and decrease of the cause, then it is not the result of that cause. Rejecting similarity to oneself The third part, rejecting similarity to oneself: if it is said that you will also have the situation where one person simultaneously produces multiple concepts, then the consciousness of concept, as the subject of debate, one previous is the cause of another subsequent --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
