If such a vow is made, is it because its effect is constant? Is it because there is no way to abandon it? Or is it because there is a way but one does not know it? If one speculates in this way, then all three reasons are not established. The reason is that, in order, you have your reason; your reason will be overcome by the antidote and disappear; and recognizing the nature of your reason also establishes the knowledge of the antidote to the reason. The way in which salvation arises from that: Fourth, the way in which salvation arises from that is: the Bhagavan (Bhagavan, one who possesses six kinds of excellent qualities) is the savior, as stated in the offering praise of the Sutra, because he saves sentient beings from suffering by truly proclaiming the path that he has personally seen and experienced. So, how does he proclaim it truthfully? The Bhagavan does not lie, that is, he does not speak perversely, because there is no result in saying that, there is no need. If one thinks that he speaks perversely because he has no compassion, then the Bhagavan does not speak perversely because he has no compassion, because he has great compassion, and all his actions of body, speech, and mind are for the benefit of others, constantly practicing and becoming accustomed to them in countless kalpas. Therefore, it is established that there is a means of proof: Fifth, therefore, it is established that there is a means of proof: Bhagavan, you have a means of proof as a Pramana-purusha (Pramana-purusha, a reliable person), because your means of proof—great compassion—has been proven by reason, and from this it has been proven that the Shasta (Shasta, the guide), the Sugata (Sugata, the one who has reached the good realm), and the savior are autonomous. Establishing what has been done by negating what has not been done: Third, establishing what has been done by negating what has not been done has five points: establishing salvation with the reason of real power; the way in which the Sugata is established from that; the way in which the Shasta is established from that; the way in which compassion is established from that; therefore, it is established that effort has been made. Establishing salvation with the reason of real power: The first point is divided into two parts: proclaiming the Four Noble Truths is shown to be salvation; establishing the Four Noble Truths to be proclaimed with reason. Proclaiming the Four Noble Truths is salvation: The first point is: the meaning of salvation lies in proclaiming the path to liberation, or, by proclaiming the four means of proof in a forward direction, it is merely established that there is a means of proof, or, by proclaiming in a reverse direction, it is also established that effort has been made for the means of proof. That is to say, the Bhagavan is the savior, because the path to liberation... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, the teacher demonstrates the Four Noble Truths without any inversion: what should be known is suffering, what should be abandoned is origin (afflictions), what should be attained is cessation, and what should be cultivated is the path. The following texts will be linked to the discussion of how the teacher demonstrates the Four Truths in a truthful and non-deceptive manner, and confirms this through the logic of what truly exists. 2. Establishing the Four Truths to be Proven by Reasoning Divided into four parts: First, explaining the Truth of Suffering by establishing the basis and definition; second, explaining the Truth of Origin by establishing the cause of suffering; third, explaining the Truth of Cessation by establishing the cessation of suffering; and finally, explaining the Truth of the Path by establishing the method to counteract self-grasping. 3. Explaining the Truth of Suffering by Establishing the Basis and Definition Divided into two parts: First, establishing the basis of samsara; second, establishing the definition of impermanence, etc. 4. Establishing the Basis of Samsara Divided into three parts: First, showing that suffering is the basis of samsara; second, establishing the existence of samsara through reasoning; and finally, the absurd consequences if samsara does not exist. 5. Showing that Suffering is the Basis of Samsara First, the three—afflictions, karma, and vipaka—uninterruptedly as the proximate cause (ཉེར་ལེན་གྱི་ཕུང་པོ།) of samsara, the nature of dharma (ཆོས།) is the Truth of Suffering, because they are either directly or indirectly the aggregates of suffering through the three sufferings. 6. Establishing the Existence of Samsara Through Reasoning Divided into two parts: First, establishing through the clarity arising from habituation; second, establishing through the homogeneity of the proximate cause. 7. Establishing Through the Clarity Arising From Habituation Divided into two parts: First, presenting the argument; second, refuting the rebuttal. 8. Presenting the Argument First, the nihilist says: 'Samsara is unreasonable because there is no past and future life.' For a newborn, his nature is having the habituation of attachment, etc., because attachment, etc., clearly arise in his continuum. This is universal, because in this life, people see that attachment, etc., clearly arise from previous habituation of attachment, etc. 9. Refuting the Rebuttal Divided into three parts: First, refuting the arising of attachment, etc., without a cause; second, refuting arising from dissimilar things; therefore, similar things are established as the cause. 10. Refuting the Arising of Attachment, etc., Without a Cause First, if attachment, etc., do not arise from habituation, then are they without a cause or is there another cause? If the former, then the nature of attachment, etc., is not an arbitrary non-cause, because they are sometimes seen to arise. This is universal, because if it is without a cause, then arising occasionally is contradictory. 11. Refuting Arising From Dissimilar Things Divided into two parts: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
