Because it has been thoroughly explained before that this view is incorrect. If it is said that although it cannot be negated by not observing, it can be negated by signs such as being a sense faculty and consciousness, then the sense faculties themselves are the subject of debate. They are not valid arguments for negating the previous life, because they possess a remainder of uncertainty in negating the previous life. Third, to establish that the connection is reasonable, the argument is presented: The sense faculties at the time of death, if other conditions are complete and there are no obstacles, then the production of other subsequent sense faculties is also achievable, because they are sense faculties. For example, the previous sense faculty of this life has the ability to produce a subsequent one of its own kind, because we see the previous sense faculty becoming clear or turbid, thereby causing the subsequent sense faculty to also become clear or turbid. If it is said that the sense faculties of this life are not produced from the previous sense faculty, but from a constant body, then, for a sentient being, since the previous sense faculty is a constant cause, many similar sense faculties would be produced simultaneously, because the direct cause of many similar sense faculties—the constant body—is constantly present. Or, if it is said that the five sense faculties of this life are produced from consciousness, then the five sense faculties of the next life should also be produced from this same consciousness, because the five sense faculties of this life are produced from consciousness, for the same reason. Fourth, demonstrating the conclusion established through refutation: The minds of ordinary people and Arhats at the time of death, because the body and breath are the immediate causes of the mind, therefore the mind is separated from the body or breath, and by posing this as a reason, you cannot prove that the mind is not connected to the next life, because the body and breath are not the immediate causes of the mind. Since this reason cannot prove the absence of connection, another argument similar to this, namely the mind at the time of death, is also not a valid argument for proving that the previous subject of debate is not connected to the mind of the next life, because it is considered to have a remainder that could fall into the opposite of what is to be proven. Second, refuting the view that even if it exists, it does not go beyond its own nature, which has three aspects: presenting an argument based on examples; refuting the examples and their meanings presented by others; explaining the reasonable examples of one's own side. First, even if there is a slight change due to habituation to compassion, the previous state still exists. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it is said that it is impossible to become characterized by entering spontaneously beyond one's own nature, just as jumping and getting used to the water temperature, even if they change due to habit, do not increase infinitely, then what? Refuting the examples set by others: The second part has four aspects: The example does not have the characteristic of infinite increase; the meaning has the characteristic of infinite increase; refuting the argument that the example is similar to the meaning; refuting the argument that the meaning is too absolute. The example does not have the characteristic of infinite increase: Firstly, jumping and water temperature, their nature is not the same as the nature of compassion, and they do not increase infinitely. Even if they increase slightly due to habit, they are not of the nature of increasing spontaneously. The reason is established: because the efforts that can help in jumping cannot prove that the subsequent differences increase infinitely; and because the water on which the water temperature depends is not always present. Universally valid: if once accustomed, it still depends on subsequent efforts or becomes an unstable foundation, then the subsequent differences of the object of habit will not increase infinitely. The meaning has the characteristic of infinite increase: Secondly, love and so on, if practiced without being separated from the cause of habit, the subsequent differences will enter spontaneously. Because it is a merit that arises from habit in the mind without relying on physical effort. For example, when fire burns wood, if there are no obstacles, it will burn the wood spontaneously without relying on effort; and like, when taming mercury and gold, once an effort is made, it will be tamed spontaneously without relying on other subsequent efforts. Universally valid: if once accustomed, it no longer needs effort, then the previous effort will make the subsequent effort excellent. This shows that jumping is not the same as habit. Because there is an example of spontaneous entry, therefore, thoughts such as love, if accustomed without being separated from the cause of habit, where will they stop increasing? They will not stop increasing. Because it is a merit of the mind that grows from the seeds of the same kind as before. Universally valid: because the merit arising from those habits is the merit that arises as the very nature of the mind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
